I feel like ya'll don't give athena enough credit. She's decently geared. Like she's not even skimpy. Sure it's not full battle armor, but it's traditional greek apparel (of which she was commonly portrayed in) with an overlaying battle-armor thingy (skimpy, but as said, it's laid over actual clothes), with a battle shield and greaves.

Like there are MUCH better options to show who's badly geared. I understand Athena isn't 'dressed to the nines' but she's not the worst, I'd even say it's solid.

Now people like Neith I'ma have trouble with

Firstly - thanks for agreeing with me. I like you. A++. Secondly, I mostly lurk here. I don't post all that often because I don't care about what most of the discussions are, which I guess is why I don't have much rep. I mean, tier lists? Great, I'll look at them. What's your favourite God and why thread? I'll peek. But I don't really care to comment because they aren't that important to me. What is important to me is representation of women and PoC in video games, especially considering you are taking a PoC pantheon and whitening it.

And that whole 'I know Mesoamericans that are pale' thing? That's kind of like 'I have black friends so it's okay if I say the n word' argument. The point is you aren't Mesoamerican and the majority of them are dark skinned. I don't understand this whitening phenomenon. I mean, I'm still peeved the Hindu Pantheon is whitened. Hindu, which originated in India, a South Asian country with predominantly dark skinned Indians. Are there light skinned Indians? Sure, but they aren't the majority. And the Egyptian pantheon. I could write an essay on how Ancient Egyptians were most likely Middle Eastern/Black/Semitic mixed, not white, but that's for another day. I'm not saying erase white pantheons, because they obviously exist. I love the Greek Pantheon. I love the Roman Pantheon. But we aren't making Athena Asian, so why does Awilix look European? Why does Serqet look like a slightly tanned Italian?

If ya'll want to argue the 'but the men are sexualized too!' then all I have to say is Zhong Kui, Kumbhakarna, Sylvanus, Loki, Xbalanque, Bacchus, Ah Muzen Cab, Bakasura, Geb, Fenrir, Hun Batz, Ra, Sobek, Ymir, Kukulkan, Janus and Mercury, and I only tentatively leave Poseidon and say, Thor, Tyr, etc because I feel like the whole manly man buff chest thing is more appealing to the egos of the men playing the game than the sex drives of the women.

By comparison, the only Goddesses that aren't sexualized in some way (in my opinion) are Scylla, Nox and Chang'e. And one of those three is a child. I'd be pree creeped out if she was sexualized, to be honest. Also, just as a sort of little tidbit - Nemesis, Bastet and Kali are wearing thongs. All three. Nu Wa is arguably wearing a table cloth. There's so many beautiful and intricate traditional Chinese clothing they could've chose for her design .. but no, she's wearing a table cloth.
I'm not saying 'oh no, they should all be covered head to toe!' I'm saying give them more depth. Give their character design more thought.

And you know what, it is a marketing medium. But who are they marketing to? 36% of gamers are women. Only 17% of gamers are men under 18, which is who I hope the make titty wobble aesthetic is attempting to promote itself to. I don't want to believe that 47% of adult male gamers are a) threatened by the idea of a woman character with depth or b) are sinking so low that most of the women they see in real life are virtual. This honest to God sets an unrealistic standard for real, living women. Men become disenfranchised with the real deal because they believe they deserve the fictional one, disregarding the fact the women are, you guessed it, not real. Maybe they're successful now, but I guarantee you it's not because Bastet has more cleavage than necessary, it's because it's a fun MOBA based on mythology, which pretty much everyone at least loves a little.

I could say more but I think it would be beating a dead horse at this point because you either agree with me or you're wrong. Uh, I mean, or you don't.

Also, Athena is GREAT. I love Athena. She's my girl. What she's dressed in is actually very Greek, very historical, and very awesome. Goddesses don't have to be devoid of sexuality - I just want them to be based on more it.

I just want to say that I am fine with some of gods to be like Neith,Awilix etc, but please let them make some gods as Chang'e. Her dress is awesome, the amount of details is great, but sometimes I feel that design team is lazy and they want to make goddess with minimum effort - minimum clothes. Like Nurisea said Nu Wa is just wrapped in table cloth.. Like - Hey there is war going on, I'm gonna go there but I am too lazy to dress so I'll just wrap myself is cloth.

It's a sad fact of life. I have a problem with Hi-Rez' portrayal of female goddesses, but I also understand the concept behind "sex sells" and deal with it.

Look, I agree with your argument (at least partially), but don't try and throw numbers at me. I hate people who randomly throw numbers at me, and don't even bother to cite a source. How do I know you aren't providing a source that counts anyone who has 1 game on a mobile device a "gamer"?

And finally, the sad truth of life: If there are SO many people that were bothered by this, Hi-Rez would be losing money, and they wouldn't be doing it. It's all about the money. If it was really that big a deal, Hi-Rez would change it, because they'd be losing money.

Vote with your wallet people. Even though this is a free to play game, if you don't like it, nobody's forcing you to play the game.

I was actually going to write an essay of my own about an hour and a half ago, but my browser crashed again near the end of writing it so I just gave up. Let's try it again. I agree with you on Athena, although I don't necessary think she should wear full plate. I personally think she should wear a full cover robe like how she's always (as far as I've ever seen) been portrayed, which was actually pretty common equipment for Greek soldiers (primarily the levies though). Plus Athena's a tactician rather than a frontline warrior like Ares or Hercules, so she wouldn't necessarily require the heaviest armor available although it wouldn't necessarily be out of place if she did wear it. Freya is a little more complicated since not only does she not seem to have a visual depiction dating before the 1800's (or at least not that I can find), but as far as my knowledge of her goes she didn't actually engage in combat and took more of an administrative/supportive role. Her armor doesn't bother me from a sexualized standpoint though considering how she was notorious for being the ***** of the gods (at least allegedly), so frankly it kinda stands to reason that she might show some skin. I personally would rather she wear furs augmented with maybe some cloth and minimal bits of chainmail or scale, not only would it look more Scandinavian but it would also suit her role/lore a little better. You're also absolutely right about Serqet/Awilix/enternamehere. You would never find them dressed like that in their pantheons. That's also because most of them are traditionally naked, or in the case of most of the Mayans and Norse have no original material with which to work off of for an idea of what they should look like. And no, saying that there are pale Mesoamericans is not like saying that I can be racist because I have black friends. It's saying that I'm from California, where to be blunt the Mexicans and South Americans outnumber the white Americans, and I know first-hand that there is a sizeable population of people from Central and South America who look more pale than one might think. I do agree with some of your other points however, Nude Wa could use more clothing (or clothing, really), the Hindus should be darker unless they have a reason not to be, the Egyptians could kinda go either way since nobody knows for certain what the Egyptians looked like (though my money is a mix of Arab and Hebrew, there's plenty of evidence for them not being black pretty much at all), etc. I do disagree with the idea that the sexualization is due to men feeling threatened, or having Thor and Tyr being buff to play on our egos, but I'm not really an average guy so maybe it's just me.

sex sells is a bloated term, games sell, food sell, gas sells...

that doesnt mean i want to **** my sandwich that a cartidge in it that i can throw in a moter to make that work.

@dacoqrs. i dont think the numbers are deceptive, heck at least nurisea gave numbers and you dont have numbers disproving that those numbers fit to smite.

the term "gamer" is very simply a discription of "people who play games" and as much as i hate mobile gaming and to surten extend the mobile gamers as well, they are still gamers.

i will not tolirate you trying to disregard a group because they are more casual, smite players of all people should know that it's not fun to be disregared just because you are casual. smite is THÉ most casual out of ALL moba's only rivaled by some of the mobile moba's. i will not tolirate people trying to make other people feel like lesser parts of the same group just so they can stroke their **** with a feeling of superiority.

your argument about it all being about the money, i will use that next time you imply they Hirez made a game out of the goodness of their hearts like you have done before.

I wrote something, but then just decided to delete it. I don't really want to go into this particular discussion too much because we've had it a million times already, and that's not even what this thread was originally about.

Not saying there's anything wrong with this discussion. It's actually going very well considering a lot of the other debates we've had around here lately. So keep it up.

All I'm really going to say right now is that, no offense, but some of you are taking this game a bit too seriously in terms of any "realism" it supposedly has, especially if you're trying to argue any "unrealistic standards it's setting for women in real life" points.

Lets just all agree that HiRez's modelers did a wonderful job on the model. Do you know how HARD it is for 3D modelers to make realistic characters. Especially females!

If you do then appreciate the hard work they've done on this and all previous and future characters they have and will do next! :D
