It is because a lot of ppl complained about that he wasn't true to the lore of the "real" Sun Wukong (how he looks etc). As it is stated in the post on reddit they are just going to give the Mayan god all of Sun Wukongs skills (with small changes).

So they are basically just renaming him, and making a new Sun Wukong ;)

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions.
