Notes Can also replace Divine Ruin with Spear of Desolation if there is absolutely no enemy healing, or with Mantle of Discord and get it later (probably after Soul Reaver and before Obsidian Shard.)

Sacrificing damage for survivability with this build. You will also not have as much early pressure and it will be a while before your cooldowns are online.

With this build you will want to focus on clearing, getting Warlock's Staff online, and stacking it as fast as possible. You will want to play safer and just farm until mid-game.

Pros + Cons

PROS
Built-in stacking + healing via Creeping Cabin
Her Wild Witchcraft is decently hard to predict and accurately dodge.
She has a lot of soft CC, and the silence in her Wild Witchcraft goes crazy.
Good AOE damage and self peel with her ultimate, Home Sweet Home, which knocks back enemies that are too close.

CONS
Her escape, Blast Off! has a long casting time and can easily be interrupted + canceled.
Her early clear and pressure is a little bad...
She has no hard CC like stuns, roots, etc. The most she can do alone is silence with her Wild Witchcraft or knock enemies back with her Home Sweet Home.
Her abilities are still a LITTLE clunky and potion management gets irritating.

Abilities

You should read Baba Yaga's abilities in detail either through Smite or here: https://smite.fandom.com/wiki/Baba_Yaga

Baba Yaga's Cabin accumulates up to 100 essence over time, when it moves, and if enemy gods get too close. Baba Yaga can approach the Cabin and use this essence to gain evolving item stacks. Items with a low stack count take more energy. If Baba Yaga has no stacking item this essence heals Baba Yaga for 0.8% max health per tick.

Item Stack Cost: [400 / Item Max Stacks] essence

Heal Cost: 4 essence

Read the entire patch here: https://www.smitegame.com/news/titan-of-the-cosmos-8-12-update-notes/

Direct Baba Yaga changes:
None!

Indirect Baba Yaga changes:
Spear of Desolation has more power, as well as its t2 Enchanted Spear.
Obsidian Shard has more power, as well as its t2 Spell Focus.
Book of the Dead got nerfed.

What this means for Baba; just an overall buff to items that she is using anyways. Also, the book build is dead.

Why do we max her 1 first and not 2? With the 2 you ultimately have 2 charges of it if used correctly or is there something I'm missing

It's absolutely not a dumb question, and it's something that people continue to consider, due to her added ease of stacking.

That said, I think most people opt NOT to pick up Book of Thoth for Baba Yaga. I think the only god that continues to use Thoth as a core item is Kukulkan. Keep in mind, it's an item you get for 2 things: magical power and mana. As you move toward late-game, you typically get a variety of items that provide either mana or MP5, and depending on your starter of choice (if you pick one up), you might not have many mana issues even early game. You're then left with just high power.

While the power is nice, this item costs a decent amount, and other items provide other utility features or penetration. I think at this point, you're better off considering other items. For stacking, both Charon's Coin and Warlock's Staff are options. Otherwise, you can just go for a more standard mage build, like the one proposed here. You could consider an adjustment to the build order though, e.g. getting Charon's Coin first, changing starter (consider Conduit Gem into Gem of Focus), etc.

Hope this helps.

Divine Ruin is also a good early pickup even in arena due to its base stats; the anti-heal is just a bonus.
