Baron Samedi
Baron Samedi is a death Petro Loa, one of the aspects of The Baron. Baron Samedi is a utility mage (like Nu Wa) that can heal and support team mates, while dishing out his fair share of damage. Baron Samedi is a low mobility mage with strong crowd control and unique skills. His abilities allow him to counter and control enemy gods. Combined with health-scaled abilities and a combo oriented kit, Baron Samedi can easily influence a fight.
Abilities
Passive: Hysteria
Baron shares Baron's Brew, a powerful restorative chalice, with his allies from the Item Shop. Enemies hit by Baron will have Hysteria applied to them. Baron's abilities interact with Hysteria to provide bonus effects. Targets at Max Hysteria take 20% additional damage from Baron Samedi.
Ability Video
Notes and Tactics
Baron's Brew is essentially a boosted Multi Potion chalice, and it heals for 12% more health and 33% more mana. However keep in mind that you can only buy one, and have to go back to the fountain to refill it. The Multi Potion has a longer duration as well. Still, Baron's Brew is better than the Multi Potion.
The extra damage from Hysteria encourages using combos to increase damage.
Vivid Gaze
Baron Samedi animates two skulls, both which briefly warm up before firing two beams of voodoo magic that damage enemies. The beams crossover wherever Baron Samedi was aiming. Enemies hit by both beams take 15% damage on the second hit.
If the enemy god hit is above 30 Hysteria, their Physical Power, Magical Power, and Attack Speed are reduced.
Ability Video
Notes and Tactics
Applies 10 Hysteria per beam. This is your waveclear and your main source of damage when combined with other abilities. Try to hit your target at the crossroads of the beam if possible. However, since you have to be in-front of the minion wave to land this, there's a high chance that you'll be hit by the enemy laner's clearing ability. This causes you to lose a lot of health quickly.
Consign Spirits
Baron Samedi guides restless spirits to the ground and buries them. After a brief delay the ground erupts, damaging enemies standing in the area. If an enemy god is hit, friendly spirits fly the from the area and heal allies near the explosion or by Baron Samedi.
If the enemy god hit is above 30 Hysteria the friendly spirit cleanses ally slow effects, and increases their Movement Speed.
Ability Video
Notes and Tactics
Your poke. Try to predict where the enemy will be due to the short delay. Useful in teamfights due to the increased mobility combined with the healing. The 15% bonus healing is dependant on not who is being healed but who cosign spirits hit.[/spoiler]
Wrap It Up
Baron Samedi throws his snake forward, wrapping any enemy god hit and dealing damage every .5s for 2.5s and applying a ramp to root.
If a god hit is above 30 Hysteria, the snake will also lash out at nearby enemy gods who stand too close after 1s. Enemies hit by this are injected with venom that ramp to root and deals the full damage over time immediately.
Ability Video
Notes and Tactics
Similar to Anubis' Mummify and Chronos' Stop Time, this sets up combos for teammates and yourself due to the slow and eventually stun combined with the relatively large amount of Hysteria it applies. You will rarely see its boosted version, due to most players using it to set up targets who at the moment have zero Hysteria.
Life of the Party
Baron Samedi pulls the souls of the living towards his Coffin, becoming CC Immune and taking 35% reduced damage. Enemy gods within range are pulled towards the Coffin and take damage every .33s. When an enemy god gets too close to the coffin their soul is ripped out, causing them to be stunned, take a large amount of damage based on their total health and gain max Hysteria. This ability persists for 3.5s or until an enemy god is pulled to the coffin.
If targets being pulled are above 30 Hysteria, the pull strength is increased.
Ability Video
Notes and Tactics
Can apply full Hysteria if a poor soul gets pulled in for the complete duration. Great for teamfights due to the high CC it provides, even finishing it off with a 2 second stun. This is a great ability for setting up kills for your allies. This is also great for rapidly inflicting Hysteria so your abilities get the full effect. However, keep in mind that Baron Samedi receives a 60% movement speed reduction when channeling this.
Ability Combos
→→
Notes
General damage combo.
→
Notes
Use this solely for the healing/movement speed aspect of Consign Spirits.
→→→
Notes
If done correctly will mostly likely kill the intended target. Has the potential to greatly influence a team fight due to the healing and movement speed buff combined with disabled enemy gods
Playing in the Solo Lane
Important Notes
Start in lane, keep an eye on the mana buff. If the jungler goes to clear it, go and help him for the exp and gold
Ward in your side's jungle if the jungler is strong/dominating
Regularly check the minimap
Take the mid furies when possible and you know it's safe
Try to participate in teamfights as much as you can
Probably a silly question but, if you were to build [Soul Gem] and [Lotus Crown], when would you build each? Would you build [Soul Gem] 2nd maybe and [Lotus Crown] later? Or perhaps [Soul Gem] 1st and [Shoes of the Magi] 2nd?
Dont' build Soul Gem on Baron Samedi, you don't have enough power in the example build shown to get good use from the passive, and building Baron like a burst mage sucks since his nerfs and the last nerfs to Soul Reaver especially and Spear of the Magus.
Why are you building Soul Gem in a tanky/hybrid solo lane build? You know how the passive works, right?
Also, I would prioritise divine over pestilence on Baron. You can build him hybrid/tanky and he can soak *some* damage but he isn't a frontliner. You can swap ethereal or magus for the magical defense item in the build.
Perhaps include hide of urchin as alternative somewhere as well.
Lastly, not sure about pythags on a solo lane baron, support maybe, but solo? May as well get magus instead for damage while also helping magical teammates.
You might want to mention that Void Stone should only be bought in solo or support. Solo should pretty much always buy it, but support should only buy it if there's another mage who can benefit from it and solo hasn't bought it because the effects don't stack and Spear of the Magus works great with his ult.
Swap Dynasty Plate Helm with Celestial Legion Helm/lotus crown (if going with soul gem). If you do get dyn, make sure to note that it's a bridge item and should be sold because its usefulness drops off pretty quickly.
I'd only get Pythagorem's Piece in support; solo/mid should get soul gem instead.
Baron isn't a great mid-laner due to not having any real movement abilities/escape.
I think we know the real reason. Zeus and Ah Puch aren't exactly weak, or not mid laners due to "not having any real movement abilities/escape". Or we look at someone like Hades who has an escape and is still awful. Baron has the worst early clear of any mage and a pretty weak early game damage output since his continous nerfs, not to mention magus and soul reaver nerfs are going to put him in a very ****ty spot in mid.
Im not sure if he's better in support or solo keeping in mind guardians blessing in solo hasn't been changed and warrior's blessing has been buffed.
In all honesty I don't think Baron is a viable mid laner since the soul reaver and magus nerfs as his mid lane wasn't that good already. He does badly without protections.
3) Winged Blade does not protect against the slow from Wrap It Up. This is a potential bug because Heavenly Wings WILL nullify the slow, thus preventing you from being rooted.
A good basic guide. One thing I will mention that no one else seems to have, I think the general damage combo should be 3 > 2 > 1, rather than 3 > 1 > 2, as the 2 takes a moment to go off, and if you time it quickly, the 1 will land almost exactly as the 2 explodes, resulting in huge burst and less of a chance for the 2 to miss.
Rezneths guide has been getting a lot of attention. Its a good guide, but This one deserves some love too. I like your write up and will try this out soon. +1 vote and rep drom me.
When you talk about Hysteria (and in particular, Baron's Brew), you say you can only buy one...makes it sound like there's only 1 use before you have to refill. Might clarify that better, since it should be 3 uses (like normal healing/mana chalices). Also, it might just be the way I read it, but it sounds like when you say Multi Potion has a longer duration, it's a negative against the Brew. Reason it sounds like that is because I think you could reword to really say that the Brew is a great item, rather than just give comparatives. Boosted multi potion with a preferably shorter duration to restore is great.
On Vivid Gaze, you're saying to point the intersection so the beams hit all of the minions...I don't think you can hit all minions with that intersection unless they're bunched up. Rather, making sure one of the beams goes through the entire wave, and focusing the intersection on the minions you need more damage on, is probably best. That extra damage isn't all that much anyway. Helpful, but not huge.
Spelling error on the last sentence of notes for Consign Spirits.
I need to play with him some, so take my build comments with that consideration. That said, for any god that has a situational heal rather than a heal that can work anywhere/anytime, I always feel that Rod of Asclepius is also then situational. In Baron's case, I think it's probably closer to core, but still...not necessarily true core. He'll appreciate that MS since he has no escape, and that alone might make it basically core, maybe. But if you've got other teammates with heals, and you're playing skilled competition, expect anti-heal, and so you're building something that's going to have a reduced function.
I think the rest of the item suggestions are solid, but you might consider some additional things. I think Mantle of Discord is another option that should be in there. Pythagorem's Piece is another great utility item, if your teammates are sticking with you (or you're sticking with them, as should be the case).
Will make the changes to clarify the Hysteria description
Will fix the Vivid Gaze intersection thing, I actually meant to say position the point o intersection so that all the minions are hit by at least one beam. Going to make that clear-er
Early soul reaver is fine (as alternative to book of thoth), but late warlocks isn't. The very latest you should go warlocks is third item. Anything past that is very bad.
Dope. More power to you then. I figured you'd save more expensive items for later and get your stacking done earlier. But alright. Have you built Soul Reaver earlier? What did you think if you did?

As for Lotus Crown, if you are building like a support im thinking:
Reinforced Shoes, Lotus Crown, Genji's Guard, Spirit Robe, Gem of Isolation, Mantle of Discord.
If you want to build him like a solo laner: Shoes of the Magi, Breastplate of Valor, Void Stone, Ethereal Staff, Spirit Robe, Gem of Isolation. I guess if you wanted to fit Lotus Crown in that build you could swap either Iso or E-staff for it, and if you're playing conquest, then you could also sell boots for Elixir of Speed and then get Lotus Crown.
Let me know what you think, bud. :)
Kriega, any thoughts on my suggestions?
I think we know the real reason. Zeus and Ah Puch aren't exactly weak, or not mid laners due to "not having any real movement abilities/escape". Or we look at someone like Hades who has an escape and is still awful. Baron has the worst early clear of any mage and a pretty weak early game damage output since his continous nerfs, not to mention magus and soul reaver nerfs are going to put him in a very ****ty spot in mid.
Im not sure if he's better in support or solo keeping in mind guardians blessing in solo hasn't been changed and warrior's blessing has been buffed.
I'll make the changes soon :)
1) Magi's Cloak and Spirit Robe do NOT protect against Baron Samedi's Wrap It Up.
This is a potential bug, because for comparison, Magi's Cloak will protect against Artemis's Transgressor's Fate (root+cripple) and Neith's Back Flip+ Spirit Arrow root combo.
2) Purification Beads and CC immune ults, like Ragnarok, WILL save you from Wrap It Up.
3) Winged Blade does not protect against the slow from Wrap It Up. This is a potential bug because Heavenly Wings WILL nullify the slow, thus preventing you from being rooted.
#This_god_is_broken
Nice writeup. Looks clean like usual.
Some comments:
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it a lot
However, isnt the warlocks in there a bit late? Soul reaver in there a bit too early?
