PROS -High early game damage -Moderate late game damage -High CC and anti healing -High defense -Very cool skins! |
CONS -Mana dependent -Cooldown dependent -Risky offense and waveclear - |
Standard
This is the go-to Odin build. Its focus is a balance of defense, penetration, and damage. Your last item ideally is Frostbound Hammer, however, pick up The Executioner, Winged Blade, or another defense item if you feel you need something else. The biggest problem with this build is that until you build Hide of the Urchin you will be squishy against mages.
Path to Valhalla: He knows when you are sleeping... He knows when you are awak-dead Odin's passive is the strongest its ever been. It will give you a permanent 5 physical power buff when an enemy god dies inside of your Ring of Spears, and will give you a temporary power and movement speed buff whenever an ally or enemy god dies anywhere on the map. If you are a badass you can get 50 physical power permanently, and temporarily get up to +40% physical power and movespeed. This is ridiculous... |
Lunge: ("Bird Bomb" part 1) This is your basic leap, with a little bonus. Just like all other leaps, this will let you jump over/through walls, initiate, or escape. If Raven Shout is active on you, then you deal additional damage. The problem with Lunge is how slow it is. It takes practice to hit people close to you. Max second. NOTE: A perfectly timed knockup will completely stop all damage. The knockup must hit you right before you hit the ground, so it is almost impossible. Landing in a Nox silence will also completely nullify all damage you deal. |
Raven Shout: ("Bird Bomb" part 2) This is Odin's main source of both offense and defense. When activated, Odin gains a shield that absorbs damage. After 4 seconds the shield will detonate, dealing the remaining health as damage to anyone nearby. While it is not required, the main use of Raven Shout is to deal damage with Lunge. To do this, activate Raven Shout, then Lunge to a target. At max rank, these two abilites combined will do 700 damage, plus at least 130% of your physical power. As you can imagine, this is very powerful early game and sometimes in lategame. It is important that you not take damage before leaping in order for Raven Shout to do an additional 25% damage when landing. Max first! |
Gungnir's Might: (Spin2Win) This is a standard warrior slow. Use this ability either right before Raven Shout and Lunge or right after. Gungnir's Might can also be used to help teammates get kills or escape. While the damage is not very high, it is higher than it looks, because this ablity hits twice. As described, enemies will only be slowed if they are hit with the first strike. Max last. |
Ring of Spears: (Two man enter, one man leave!) Ahhhhhh... Hear that? Its the sound of your teamates gleeful laughter as they cut down everyone caught in your Ring of Spears. Ring of Spears is, obviously, a ring of spears that lasts for 6 seconds, preventing enemies from healing and reducing their attack speed by 60% (Mercury, Odins coming for you!). This is a constant threat to the enemy team, because it is one of the best teamfight ultimates there is. Inside Ring of Spears, you are immune to slows and roots, and Adding to that, max cooldown will allow you to place Ring of Spears once every 45 seconds! Ring of spears can also be used to save low health allies from a chasing enemy. Max third. Unfortunately, there are a few risks involved with using Ring of Spears. First off, enemies with a leap are able to get out of your ulti. Try to keep track of when their escape is on cooldown. If they do get out, chase them!! You have a leap too, and if they are low health, you will be able to kill them. Thankfully, a Season 3 buff to Odin allows him to walk through his ring, so getting trapped in it isn't a risk anymore. |
Odin has a few tricks up his sleeve, and he can play several roles well.
Support
I wont go into a long guide on support, but basically Odin support is a walking ulti. Early game he will be able to deal heavy damage and secure kills. Once your ADC has built a few items and has more damage, Odin switches to a kick *** bruiser support. With max cooldowns Ring of Spears can be cast every 36 seconds. The ability to contain an enemy hunter and reduce his/her attack-speed and lifesteal is an incredible teamplay tool.
Great ADCs for Odin Support
- Cupid
- Hou Yi
- Neith But then again she can do just about anything...
Jungle
Odin jungle is my favorite way to play him in conquest. He has excellent camp clear and incredible gank potential. 'Nuff said.
A few things to note:
-Buy Bumba's Mask
-Build stacks early for Transcendence.
-Ward often, surprise "Bird Bombs" are alot like surprise buttsex: shocking and painful.
-Communicate! Nothing makes you feel more silly than being killed by an overfed midlaner after you gank him. Make sure your teammates know 1) That you are ganking with VSGG and 2) That you have an ulti with VVVR
Solo
To be honest, Odin solo is risky. Can it be done? Yes, but only in certain situations. If the enemy solo is a high sustain god ( Aphrodite, Chang'e, Hercules etc) you must kill them constantly to win the lane. But you cant just plop down a Ring of Spears every time they try and heal. High sustain enemies will stay in lane much longer than you because of this. That being said, Odin solo has incredible damage early game, so killing them and gaining a lead is entirely possible.
4/1/14: Changes to reflect Odin's small buff in ability scaling. Added The Executioner in the place of Quin's Sais. Combined Items chapter with Builds chapter.
5/7/14: Added Roles section, added some Odin lingo to Abilities. Kicked the tires, Lit the fires.
5/28/15: Added detailed stats for the three builds, changed the tank build a bit. Thanks for the support guys!!
2/25/16: Added Shifter's Shield, changed a few things.
3/7/16: Added Jotunn's Wrath to build as possible final item, switched Titan's Bane and Shifter's Shield, updated actives for Season 3.
3/15/16: Added ability builder
9/14/16: Added new skins, a few tweaks
10/19/16: Removed stats from the three different builds, they were really old. Someday Ill put them back in, I promise.

Yes, S4 got the new passive, but since you'll usually go somewhat tanky with Odin, I just don't think it's worth it for him. Gaia is basically a counter for knockups and whatnot, and probably best on squishy gods looking to avoid getting ganked from that (e.g. Awilix on the enemy team).
I dunno, just my opinion on that. I think there are better items for him in most cases.
It's basically a better version of magi's specifically for that CC, and magi's is still a fine item
Thats great, lol
Why not Jotun's wrath? Good power, mana and 25% cdr
Its really up to you. Both Titan's Bane and Jotunn's Wrath are good pen items. Its up to you. I usually prefer percent based pen items, call me crazy.
I like a lot about this guide until it comes to the builds. The builds really soil it for me. I don't understand where you get this attachment to items like Breastplate of Valor from. Yes, I understand it gives a LOT of physical defence and good cdr but you don't need the mana. You're buying a costy item for 2 stats. Why buy breastplate when you can get Mystical Mail? Improve your early and mid game considerably, as well as your teamfight. Not that you need extra early mid but increases your kill potential and is just generally better.
Then there's Transcendence. Yeah, you might of got Breastplate of Valor so you have more power, but you're literally not going to be doing much lategame outside of cage. Transcendence wont fix that.
More later.
Breastplate of Valor isnt for the protections as much as it is for the high CDR and high mana. The reason it comes first in the build is because of the CDR, because Odin has very risky waveclear (either jump in balls to the wall, or stand there waiting for your shield to go off). If there was another item that game 25% CDR and added to Transcendence then I would deffinetally suggest it. Also, Breastplate of Valor is a pretty low cost item, it is less than Mystical Mail.
On occasion I will replace Breastplate of Valor for Ancile, but only in a magic heavy game. I dont like doing this because it forces me to have less CDR than my normal build.
As far as Transcendence, it does fix lategame damage. No, you will not be hitting as hard as an assassin, but you are possibly the hardest hitting warrior. Transcendence adds over 100 physical power at full build and stacks. And lets be honest, Odin is nothing without mana. If he doesnt have mana, he doesnt have escape, damage, defense, or Ring of Spears.
Then there's Transcendence. Yeah, you might of got Breastplate of Valor so you have more power, but you're literally not going to be doing much lategame outside of cage. Transcendence wont fix that.

I swear to dear Zeus All-Mighty I'll try this out ! I recommended this to my friend who wanted to start playing with Odin on solo lane ( since she can't use her 10 Chang'e pretty well on that lane ... ) and it looks like ! Up Vote !
Odin is a potential solo laner due to his tankyness and great waveclear, but remember that he has virtually no sustain. It can be done, but you might have to stock up much more on Health Potions.
This build also works well with jungling, Odin ganks are usually a guarenteed kill for the person you are ganking for. If you jungle with this build, priortize Transcendence and Titan's Bane.
