From what I can tell at this point in time the builds should be more focused on survivability and being able to tank/make space in the enemies back line for your jungler/dive. If you are squishy or easy to kill you won’t be able to make space for your jungler to get in and kill the enemies back line.
Pros
Tanky
High sustain
High damage
Average mobility
High cc
And you’re a real man
Cons
Hard late game
Hard abilities to land
Spacing is difficult to get used to
Use your ult often as it has a short cool down and isn’t all that important (its only damage)
Always use three when on the engage
Walls are your ult best friend because it can bounce off of them and do more damage.
Hercules is a great god with great cc, defense, sustain, and damage. He isn’t too difficult to learn/play but a good herc is a scary person.

E.g. Warrior Tabi, Blackthorn Hammer, Void Shield, Runic Shield, Jotunn's Wrath, Mantle of Discord.
I think I would prefer Ancile over Runic Shield though.
I would say there are only 3 real starts that I would recommend is
1) Warrior’s Blessing and Boots and three Health and Mana potions
2) Warrior’s Blessing and Round Shield and two Health potions and one Mana potion
3) Round Shield and three Health potions and a Health Chalice
All three are viable but it all really depends on what you’re looking for. I’m not sure if I would do the round shield alone start on Hercules too often because he isn’t going to hit more than one or two people with an ability so rushing Gladiator’s Shield isn’t always the play. I would recommend the boots start the most but the other two are very viable just depends on the matchup and situation.
The only god in solo I would consider health + mana pots is Hel solo, and thats if I go Guardian's Blessing over Mage's Blessing.
That said, there's a compromise, depending. Instead of pure Mana Potions, there is the option for some Multi Potions. You can go 2 health and 4 multi, or 3 and 3, or 4 and 2 depending on how mana hungry you typically find yourself.
One other thing, Cooldillan, I personally don't like the Genji's Guard in the example build. I know it's just an example, but you have plenty of MP5 and mana base through BoV, Blackthorn, and Urchin, that I don't think you need even more. Instead, I'd prefer to see a Spirit Robe in that 5th position, for example (situational mitigation, still get the CDR, as well as CCR)...or if you want dedicated magical prots, Oni Hunter's Garb or Pestilence.

Void shield/pestilence

Mantle of discord

Shield of regrowth (maybe this would be more useful earlier if you are ahead of your opponent and are going to gank lanes). Not too sure about the shield of regrowth though. Maybe someone can check me on that.
Runic shield is such a lack luster item right now. Reducing an enemy's magical power will not be as beneficial to your team, since it is the magical penetration that your team mates gotta watch out for. Someone correct me if i am wrong here.
I can see runic shield being beneficial if your support builds heartward (and maybe gauntlet of thebes too). Again, maybe someone can check me on the usefulness of runic shield.
It's useful against mage solos and heavy magical teams.
Slight addition. Solo is about counter-building your opponent during the laning phase, at least for standard tanky gods. After that, it's about getting items that benefit the whole team, and/or countering the biggest threats.
