Hello to all the lovely people on SmiteFire. Stuke here again for another guide. In this guide, you'll learn how to play not just the face of the game but also a master of weaponry, a pure harbinger of violence, and a true trooper, Bellona.
Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail. These are suggestions on how to play Bellona. I encourage you to see the comment section below and other tips.
You gain a stack of protection and movement speed every time you hit an opponent or get hit by an enemy god's attack. In theory, you could build full power and still be tanky enough compared to the enemy jungler. This passive gives Bellona most of her speed outside her first and ultimate ability. Build up this passive before chasing a target to shorten the gap as much as possible. |
A short distance dash once reaching the end, or when you hit an enemy, any enemy god caught in the cone is slowed, and you gain a stack of Blocks for the number of enemy gods hit. This Weapon Mode gives Bellona a Shield and Longsword that, when you get three successful basic attacks, adds a Block stack with a max of three. An excellent weapon form to use when boxing as you'll not be taking so much damage in a close-quarters fight. |
The ability you want to use for lane clear and dealing high damage. You spin a 360 and slam your hammer on the ground, but there's more. If you hit a target with the spin, the slam will do more damage, increasing for each enemy god caught in the slam. This Weapon Mode gives Bellona a large Warhammer that provides her Auto-Attacks AoE damage (like Osiris). The AoE effect, the ability that provides your basic attacks, gives Bellona significant lane-clearing power. |
The ability you want to use for control and sustain. A long-range attack deals damage, but if this ability hits any enemy god, they become disarmed for a duration. An excellent tool for making AA Based gods nearly useless. This Weapon Mode gives her a Scourge that gives her additional range on her melee attack. Still, every three successful basic attacks give her a percentage of healing as this is something she needs to stay in a fight. |
This, ultimate, is what gives her that significant teamfight presence. Bellona leaps through the air and stuns anyone within your landing radius. She is a great initiator of escapes; this is a massive part of her engagements or when you need to stun the enemy for a follow-up. Once you've landed, you place a War Flag in the location that provides AoE protection and damage for you and your allies. Best to use the ability at the beginning of a teamfight to provide you and your allies that significant power and defense boost which can sway a fight in your team's favor. |
In conclusion, Bellona is great for beginners for her significant damage, defense, and utility. Bellona is easy to get into if you're relatively new to Solo lane or even warriors. Use her high aggression to rush the enemies and take out weaker targets no matter how many enemies throw themselves to stop you. Utilize your vast arsenal of abilities for their effects and the different Weapon Modes. And finally, make your presence known as the Goddess of War.

Especially, since Bellona is not as straight tanky as some of the other tank types, I don't feel that it will be as viable as it will be for some. In limited testing I have done with it on her I feel like to really benefit from it she will definitely need to be built full tank any time you want to place it in her build to feel like you are not squandering it's potential.
Yes Pridwen is viable. It's pretty much core even on many gods.
i always think it gives me offense and defense, depending on my HP which is very useful. But now it's out.
great work, thanks stuke. Real Life has always priority ofc. So i ask thehe.
he did imply that when he responded to the recent posts just a couple of replies down from this that he does not feel like updating it.
There are a ton of other Gods worse imo. But well .. really helpful guide, thanks.
i just asked myself if she's still that OP. Cause she sure is strong and has a tool for every situation, but that's the fun i think ^^

What Kriega said. She definitely has her weaknesses and can get blown up just like a lot of other gods. She is more flexible, yes, but in being that way she is not as good as other gods in some of the specific roles. She is kind of a swiss army knife character that is a hybrid, but not really in the sense that some of the other characters in the game are. Her stances kind of put her in that category, but she doesn't gain completely new skill sets like true hybrids.
I am more curious as to what hate you are talking about though. I guess it was from the the guide not being updated for awhile causing problems as to how effective the build(s) would work at the current time the comments were made. Pretty much the only 'hate' I could see was maybe from back in January or so probably before it was updated for season 6.
It looks like a solid build, aside from like most, I prefer Ninja Tabi on her as well. I don't really play conquest but it falls in line with what Bran and Gulf were talking about a warrior needed to do in solo with the flexibility to replace Berserker's Shield and add a sturdier defensive item, a more offensive option or a hybrid item depending on need on a match by match basis.
I consider her to be like a quasi-hybrid because of the different utility from each of her stances because they each allow her to do completely different things. She doesnt change ability sets like, say, a Merlin but she does not have to be straight ability OR AA centered either. She has a lot of potential flexibility in how she is built.
Also you listed brawlers twice for solo. Maybe swap one of them out and add Toxic Blade considering Bellona is AA-based.
Also for jungle get Warrior Tabi not Ninja Tabi.
I would list Frostbound over Blackthorn for Bellona. For the jungle build add ancile as a situational/alternative.
Lastly, don't build titans bane on bellona jungle. (titans bane on bellona???)
As it is, it's as Kriega has said...outdated. Not suggested for current play, and I also agree it's important to either list multiple builds or at least talk about various item options.
On the general hybrid side, you can consider items such as Masamune, Shifter's Shield, and Gladiator's Shield (the latter of which is listed in Stuke's build). You could also consider Mystical Mail in that group.
On the focus on basic attacks, you can consider Frostbound Hammer (slows on basics) and Shogun's Kusari (group attack speed).
But it's generally not recommended to go with things like Jotunn's Wrath or other full offense items, unless you're just messing around or stomping the enemy.
His starter is a base example. Seems like he prefers to rush Tabi, so Boots is the starter over Round Shield. He only shows 3 potions, and yes, it adds up to 1,350 gold. At your own preference, you can get up to 3 more potions of your choice...BUT...if you can get away with it, starting with 150 gold gets you that much closer to completing Ninja Tabi.
If against a physical solo, his build progression goes into Gladiator's Shield next. This is a good item in this situation to provide some health sustain, since he didn't start with something like Chalice of Healing, and Scourge just doesn't heal enough to really count (and you don't want to use that on the wave, as it'll drastically slow your wave clear compared to Bludgeon).
