These items arent part of the main build, but can be substituted in based on who you are playing.
Qin Sais for tank smashing.
Pick one of the starter items, you will sell this when you are full build so that you can replace it with another stronger item. This is to get you started. After this you would immediately go for the Ninja Tabi so that you can gain that attack speed and a bit of power.
You should be aiming to build up your attack power and attack speed during this section of play. You should be staying in the lane and managing the creeps. Odysseus bow will help with that tremendously.
Your ult only works when you are hitting enemies that are facing you. Enemies that are facing the opposite direction will only be slowed and hurt. Ones you hit face on will turn to stone and this will allow you to finish them off.
Defensively your ult can be used to slow an oncoming onslaught, or can be used aggressively to push back the lane
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.

Just clarifying since it's joked about so much and I want to get it straight.

@Gulf: This is exactly why I requested those deathbringer jokes tone down :/
@Diabolic: Yes it has good function when used in a crit build with another crit item. However, it is not ideal to build crit on certain damage gods (ability based hunters and assassins).
@Diabolic: DB is a great 2nd crit item, but it's never a good only crit item. It can work on any hunter, but some, like Neith, are better served building power, pen, and CDR. Medusa is a rare case in that she can build either crit or power depending upon how you want to play her. But, if you're going crit, you should have another crit item online first, like Rage or Poisoned Star because having only a 25% crit chance is next to useless.

And yeah, suggestion is, if you're going crit, always go Devo's. Trans + crit can work, but where Trans has an indirect function of high mana so you don't have to worry much about mana management, it takes up a critical space in the build. With Trans, you either have to build a separate lifesteal item, or forego lifesteal altogether.
Devo's as the alternative provides a more direct function of lifesteal, which not only helps general sustain in lane, but is helpful for trading when boxing (and keeping you alive)...boosted especially with crits. This is much more helpful when focusing on basic attacks.
Crits are generally better for gods that have some form of steroids in their kits (meaning AS boost, whether temporary or permanent). Temporary AS boosts tend to be much more powerful, and that boost allows you to build less into AS items, meaning you get to concentrate on the crit items and high power/pen.
With Qin's, you want consistently high AS so the passive damage applies as often as possible. This means it's better and often more efficient on gods that don't have AS boosts...if you build Qin's, and you have high base AS, there's a possibility you'll overcap when you use the steroid, losing efficiency overall.
Hunters where crits make the most sense:
Some major flaws with this build that I'd like to point out. I wouldn't recommend this to "newbs" at all.
Priority in most cases is going to be Acid Spray for the early wave clear. After you've maxed that (or gotten it close to max), you'll focus on Viper Shot, which will help your burst damage and starts ramping up in function as you're also building into attack speed at that point (possibly The Crusher early, or going right into The Executioner in the 3rd slot).
You shouldn't put more than 1 point into Lacerate until your other abilities are maxed. You don't get increased healing reduction, or CD, etc., from leveling it...only damage...but that damage not only has less function than the other 2 normal abilities, but it is also sometimes used for escape, which means you get absolutely nothing in those cases for leveling it up.
Please don't level your skills like this. It reduces your effectiveness.
