Introduction

Welcome to my guide for playing Chernobog in Joust! I know people say he isn't that good right now, but you know what, maybe they are just bad. Enjoy and feel free to leave feedback and comments!

Pros/Cons

Pros

  • Slippery
  • Good wave clear
  • Pretty good end game damage

Cons
  • Mana hungry
  • Abilities don't scale too well

Items

Hunter's Blessing is your starting item. Gives you good early damage/attack speed when you fully stack it.

Ninja Tabi will give you some nice attack speed early game.

Warrior Tabi can be used instead of Ninja if you want the extra attack power and not as much attack speed. Completely up to your playstyle.

Ichaival will give you more attack speed, which in return procs your passive more often.

Devourer's Gauntlet works really well for me on Chern. Gives you a bit of lifesteal, as well as some damage when fully stacked.

Wind Demon gives you your crit power and even more attack speed. This is usually when Chern starts to become quite useful.

The Crusher has almost everything Chern needs in one item. Your abilities will make your auto attacks do more damage after you cast them.

The Executioner will replace your Ichaival later in the game.

Deathbringer is usually built before you start replacing your Ichaival and Hunter's Blessing.

Jotunn's Wrath should be built when the enemy team is too tanky. Build in place of The Executioner.

Asi is only built when I rush Transcendence. Gives you a little bit of Attack Speed where it lacks with Transcendence.

Brawler's Beat Stick is a nice counter to healing. I'd build in place of The Executioner as well.

Transcendence is built if running out of mana bothers you a lot. Obviously, it gives you a lot of Power as well, so knowing that, I build it early if I want to use it, and take away Devourer's Gauntlet and use Asi instead.

Skill Usage

Heart of Cold puts a crystal on an enemy Minion/God. Once you hit the same thing 3 times in a row, it will explode, causing AoE damage. This is why building attack speed on Chern is super nice, it allows you to stack faster.

Crystallized Curses is the ability you want to max first. It does damage on impact, and then blows up after 3 seconds, doing more damage and rooting the enemy. But if you use your Vicious Barrage on the bomb, it can blow it up early.

Vicious Barrage pierces through enemies, adding 1 crystal stack as well. You also gain attack speed after casting this ability.

Into Darkness is an escape/slow/damaging ability. If you dash through someone, they are slowed, and they take damage. If you use it to dash into a wall, you will hug the wall, and stay invisible for a duration. You can choose to dash off the wall again in any direction as well.

Living Nightmare takes you into the sky. When casted, shadows are summoned behind the enemies, stacking a slow on them. You can pick which shadow to land on and when you do land all of your abilities are reset and you get extra movement/attack speed and damage mitigation.

Any Comments or Tips?

If you have any changes you think should be made to the build, please let me know and I'll try to fix it. Chernobog is still really new so there could be better build paths that people find and want to share.

I’m a pretty big noob at this game, but what would I replace for transcendence?

Build Devourer’s Gauntlet, Warrior Tabi, Poisoned Star, The Executioner, Deathbringer, Wind Demon.

Can you elaborate? What would you replace for Transcendence where, in what build?

I guess that ability build for him is not viable at all, right? Since his passive and his 2 building around ability dmg would be stupid

No, I think the ability build is fine if you're looking to use him as a jungler in Conquest (or just a general ability user in any mode). Note that if you get his 1-2 combo off on an enemy, it's 180% scaling, so his ability damage has a decent amount of oomph. On top of that, his 1-2 abilities don't have a super long CD...11 seconds for Crystallized Curses at max rank, and 12 seconds for Vicious Barrage. So getting some CDR for him allows him to poke pretty well (sort of like a mage) and then go in for the kill with his ult.

The things that benefit him as a basic attacker are the attack speed steroid in his Vicious Barrage and the 6 second damage mitigation in his ult (allows him to stay close, take some damage while boxing).

From my experience, he doesn't need more attack speed than maybe 50% or so. In my theory-crafting writeup, he feels fine with just Ninja Tabi and Asi, but you can get more attack speed if you'd like, for extended boxing past the duration of the Vicious Barrage steroid.

Respects! :)

Devourer's Gauntlet Shouldn't be bought after Ichaival, it should be built before to get it online sooner. Your start also isn't great either, I would start like this: Hunter's Blessing, Spiked Gauntlet, 2 x Healing Potion, 2x Mana Potion.
Not too sure about Ninja Tabi on him since Chernobog has a 70% attack speed steroid on Vicious Barrage at max rank.

Fixed! Thanks for the suggestions.

I could see maybe getting Ninja Tabi first then swapping it out for Warrior Tabi late game when you can use the extra power. Also, as you said, Kriega, stacking items should be built first so you can get them online faster; the only exception to this would be rage since it's stacked via god kills and you should be getting those regardless.
