Introduction

Hey everyone, welcome to the SMITEFire Community guide to Ra. In this guide, we'll be going over all the essential info you'll need to get started with Ra.

This guide was written by community members like you! Thank you to the following SMITEFire members for contributing to this guide:

Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions if you have feedback on the guide. Without further ado, let's get started!

Abilities

Passive - Speed of Light
  • Using abilities provides you with a temporary MS boost. Spam abilities before leaving base, allowing you to get back to your lane ASAP.
  • If purely trying to escape, spam any available abilities for the MS boost except the ult as this roots you in place for a couple of seconds.
  • If you want to keep the movement speed try to cast an ability at least once every ~15 sec to refresh the duration. This works best later in the game when mana isn't much of a problem.

Ability 1 - Celestial Beam
  • This is Ra's main waveclear ability. Use to clear minions safely from a distance.
  • It goes through walls, so you can use it to poke enemies or try to steal jungle camps.
  • If you’re using it in a fight, try to be as close as possible to more easily ensure a hit.

Ability 2 - Divine Light
  • Your best ability to help peel enemies that are attacking you. The slow it applies only requires you to be near the enemy, so you don't have to worry about facing them while you channel it. Easiest to apply to melee gods that are attacking you at close range.
  • If you’re going on the offensive, activate it once you’re in range as your first ability.
  • It cleanses slows upon activation and makes you immune to slows for 0.6 seconds after. Use it to counter those pesky slows!

Ability 3 - Solar Blessing
  • Use it in the middle of a wave to heal your minions and damage the enemy minions at the same time. This helps push your lane, especially early game.
  • The ability also provides protections, making it even more useful for pushing under tower or protecting yourself or allies a little bit more.
  • Don’t use this for poke damage. Unless the enemy stays in the AOE, you're unlikely to get more than a couple ticks of damage, wasting the best functions of the ability.
  • Use it in the middle of a teamfight to provide extra potential damage and healing support for your teammates. In the same way, use it when attacking objectives such as the Fire Giant or Gold Fury, since teammates can easily stay in its AOE.
  • Although each tick’s damage isn’t very high, it can still be used as a zoning tool. Place it in areas you don’t want the enemy to cross and it may just deter them.
  • Against melee gods, try fighting in Solar Blessing to not only gain extra protections but heal and deal damage at the same time.

Ultimate - Searing Pain
  • Has extremely low CD for an ultimate ability. Don’t be afraid to use it anytime. At full CDR it’s almost up at every minion wave.
  • It has a bit of a delay from cast to blast. You need to lead your shots to where you think they’ll be in a second.
  • God synergy can really help you connect on this ability. If you know a teammate has a strong CC ability that can taunt, freeze, etc., time your ability to their use when possible.
  • Like Celestial Beam, the ability goes through walls.

Leveling Order

4 1 3 2

The ultimate Searing Pain has high burst potential and a very low CD, and should be leveled whenever possible.

Celestial Beam is your main minion/wave clear.

Solar Blessing provides increasing damage and healing potential, along with a power and protection boost to allies with each added level. This is very useful for teamfights and objectives.

Divine Light only provides a damage increase per level, so is leveled last.

Starting Items

Starting Items (Standard Start)

x2 x2

This standard start picks up Mage's Blessing. You will build into either Chronos' Pendant or Doom Orb.

Starting Items (Standard Start)

This standard start rushes Chronos' Pendant and skips the blessing.

Core Items

Shoes of Focus is your best bet of the various shoes options. It gives good power, additional mana, and helpful early CDR. Since he has a form of healing in his kit, you don't typically need Shoes of the Magi.

Divine Ruin almost always finds use, as many gods build health sustain or have healing abilities.

Example Builds

Example Build (Chronos' Pendant)

This build provides high early CDR for ability spamming, while also providing solid penetration and items that provide survivability.

In the rare case anti-heal is not needed, you can replace Divine Ruin with Spear of Desolation or Spear of the Magus.

If Obsidian Shard is preferred over Charon's Coin, consider picking up Soul Reaver before Ob Shard.

Replace Shoes late with Elixir of Speed and another item of your choice.

Example Build (Book of Thoth)

This straightforward build will provide great early mobility and good mana sustain for ability spamming, along with needed penetration.

In the rare case anti-heal is not needed, you can replace Divine Ruin with Spear of Desolation or Spear of the Magus.

Replace Shoes of Focus late with Elixir of Speed and another item of your choice.

Damage / Penetration Items

Purchase mid-game for the flat pen and increased damage that all teammates can deal to the affected enemy.

This is a solid mid-game item for added CDR if you don't rush Chronos' Pendant.

Helpful against tanky enemies and for burst damage potential.

Purchase as a main % penetration item. Stacks provide some HP5 and MS. When fully stacked, situationally provides additional MS or a health shield. Consider as an alternative to Obsidian Shard for better survivability.

Purchase as a main % penetration item. Consider as an alternative to Charon's Coin if you want higher penetration potential.

The passive’s power boost works for both damaging enemies below 50% health, and increased healing for teammates below that threshold. Purchase late.

This item can be built at any point of a build for high CDR. Extremely useful for spamming your ult.

A strong start and a decent replacement consideration for Book of Thoth, or as a late-game power and mobility boost.

Defensive / Utility Items

Consider late game for extra survivability. Only consider when you purchased Book of Thoth earlier.

Bonus healing is helpful, but equally helpful is the added movement speed, especially for a god that doesn’t have any true mobility.

Lotus Crown Consider picking this up mid-game to counter physical threats. The passive’s protections can be very helpful when you start teaming up with others.

Specifically considered to counter heavy CC.

Helpful for dual protections, providing better survivability. Also provides CDR, so be careful not to overcap.

Steals health and mana from enemies and provides to you for added survivability. Also provides base health and CC reduction.

Teamfight item that provides a lifesteal and power aura to nearby teammates. The added health and CDR are appreciated.

Relic Options

Standard 1st or 2nd relic to save you from hard CC.

Standard 1st or 2nd relic, useful to counter anticipated heavy burst.

An alternative to the other 2 relics if you don’t find you need one of them, this is helpful for the added mobility for chase or escape.

Gameplay

Early Game

Early lane dominance: Although Celestial Beam is your standard wave-clear ability, you can also use Solar Blessing to help push the minion wave. Once you’ve got enough mana and mana sustain to use multiple abilities without concern, drop the Blessing on both the front minions to damage the enemy’s and keep your front minions healthy.

Further on Blessing’s use, if you’re dominating your lane and pushing the enemy tower early, drop the Blessing on your minions as they attack the tower, to give yourself a few extra seconds of attack.

Celestial Beam and Solar Blessing both go through/over walls. If you want to help the jungler with a nearby mid-harpy camp, or contest a camp being cleared by an enemy, you can use these without actually going to those camps.

Mid Game

You’ll want to start grouping up with teammates in the mid-game. Don’t forget to use your Solar Blessing anytime teammates are in one place for any length of time, to keep their health up.

The activation of Searing Pain is pretty quick, and has great distance...and it also goes through walls. Using wards in strategic places can secure you some surprise kills if you can properly anticipate the enemy’s movements, and they won’t be expecting it if they don’t see you.

Late Game

Ra provides a lot of teamfight power with good use of his Solar Blessing and the sustain it provides. While useful it can also be a drawback if the enemy has dangerous AoE abilities. So be careful with using the ability to heal up as it can bait your team in an enemy wombo combo.

This may be obvious at this point, but drop your Solar Blessing when looking to secure any objectives, to keep your teammates healed up. Also, don’t be afraid to use your ult to secure the objectives, since the CD is low.

Also remove the book of Thoth starter since it isn’t listed. And update the name of the other start.

Branmuffin17 (400) | October 21, 2020 9:15am
Oops, good catch. We only need 1 starter using blessing, since Chronos and Doom go off the same T1. I'll still have the Chronos rush option as the other starter.

Kriega1 (143) | October 20, 2020 10:53am
I see this is "updated":

Magus is not core on Ra, it's generally worse than Deso on him, and usually you will likely build divine instead.

There should be a doom orb build listed. Book of thoth isn't meta.

Branmuffin17 (400) | October 20, 2020 12:28pm
I was thinking about switching Thoth w/ Doom...will do. I'll put Divine in the example build. Thanks!

Big Damage (37) | October 20, 2020 11:14pm
Doom is a much nicer build path than anything else on Ra.

Can you add mage’s blessing starter options
1
Branmuffin17 (400) | August 27, 2020 12:57pm
Yo Kriega,

I have the alternative variants of the Chronos and Thoth rushes using Mage's Blessing in the notes...that okay?
1
Kriega1 (143) | August 27, 2020 1:24pm
Really should be using Mage's Blessing (+ tier 1 whatever) since the buff earlier this season, especially since you want boots first (and especially on Ra) and also due to mid season jungle camps getting tankier. You want the best possible clear early.

i would include a build with the t2 chronos pendant start rushing chronos right after boots as that build is really strong in the current meta.

Devampi (105) | February 27, 2020 2:47am
talking about the build, the whole build has to be updated.

Branmuffin17 (400) | January 14, 2020 10:16am
Kriega, give me a full Doom Orb build and I'll have it added in.

Not there. This one started before doom orb became a staple and it got published now a bit close to the magic item rework, so I don't know how well the items were checked before it got published as the value became lower.

I put in a request to have it added as alternative start and BoT replacement
