This is my Revamped guide for Athena
Yes I know the Image is small, if someone could PM a picture of Athena Stats I will be grateful.
Athena has slightly higher Movement Speed than other tanks, also a bit higher health. She is actually lacking mana and Physical Protection compared to other tanks so it is noteworthy to actually get items to help her overcome her weaknesses. Her MP5 and HP5 is also great.
|
800g 5 Physical and Magic Protection 100 Health |
A good starter item to have for some damage reduction and extra health at the start. |
|
1975g 50 Magic Power 250 Mana 15% Cooldown Reduction |
Can be replaced by Reinforced Greaves provides based Cooldown Reduction, Mana, Speed, and Magic Power. |
|
2300g 75 Physical Protection 25% Coodown Reduction |
Some extra Physical Protection, Mana to start out with, and 25% Cooldown Reduction which maxes Cooldown Reduction with Shoes of Focus |
|
2250g 70 Magical Protection 10 HP5 + 2% Health per 5 |
Gain some Magical Protection and Health Regeneration to save some money on purchasing health Potions also works well with Gauntlet of Thebes or Ethereal Staff stacks of health. |
|
2350g 450 Health (+400 Health) 9 HP5 +8 Health per stack-Max. to 50 (400 Health) |
Sometimes just several defense items aren't helpful or going to help you survive in lane, so having some health and getting stacks early can really improve your gameplay. |
|
2850g 600 Health 300 Mana 30 Magic Power (+2% of Max Health) |
Gives a good amount of Magic Power with health from the Ethereal Staff, Guantlet of Thebes of gives good amount of Health so with the Staff can really get good amount of Magic Power. |
|
3320g 125 Magic Power(+25% of Magic Power) 15 MP5 |
Due to Athena Low Magic Power just dependent on Shoes of Focus, Ethereal Staff, and Gauntlet of Thebes, Rod of Tahuti providing a good Steroid Boost of Magic Power so you can do great damage. |
|
2250g 80 Physical Protection 200 Health Reflects 30% of all basic attacks as Magic Power. |
For a Goddess who forces people to hurt her, and facing with strong Physical Carries this item is very useful. Helps with Sustaining Damage on them and provides some extra Health. |
|
2490g 50 Magical Power 25 MP5 25% Cooldown |
Chrono's Pendeant is good to use if you need more MP5, and is good to use if you need Cooldown Reduction and not facing a team of Physical Players. If all magical I would recommend some penetration with Void Stone. You also trade for some extra Magic Power, but this item is personal preference. |
Purification Beads are always helpful when countering other gods. Having to escape situations is hard as Athena due to her only escape being her Preemptive Strike. Beads can be used to get out of a stun to chase and finish off your opponent or avoid large bursts by avoiding shutdowns from roots, slows, and immobilize. |
Aegis Amulet is very important as Athena. For a goddess that forces people to attack her you need a way to avoid a large burst. When ever you use Defender of Olympus you never know what the enemies are going to do on the other side so having immunity can help avoid not only your teammates death but yours too. Aegis is helpful as a backup for Purification Beads incase if you can't avoid the large burst. |
Meditation
Meditation is a great way to sustain in lane during the early stages to get mana or health in the later stages. Having sustain can allow to receive more experience because it is easy for a tank to waste mana or get behind on experience. |
|
After using any ability, Athena's next basic attack is a ranged attack, hitting all enemies it passes through, and also dealing 50% of your magical power as additional magical damage | Reach is Athena's Passive, can be paired with Polynomicon to do great damage and get the last hit on anyone who tries to run away. |
|
Athena powers up for a dash. While dashing, Athena will pass through minions and stop and hit the first enemy god she encounters, dealing Damage :80/130/180/230/280 (+50% of your magical power) damage and Slows: by 25% for 1.25/1.5/1.75/2.0/2.25s. If she hits an enemy, Athena gains one stack of Block (max 3), absorbing the next basic attack from any god that hits her. Cost: 60/70/80/90/100 mana. Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11 seconds. |
A dash that can be used to clear minion waves quickly or run away. Thanks to the slow on this ability can help your teammates secure the kill of opponents who think they can escape you. |
|
Athena releases a shockwave of power from her shield, taunting enemy gods, and forcing them to fight or chase her for Taunt: 1.0/1.25/1.5/1.75/2.0s. Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 mana. Cooldown: 18 seconds. |
Could be considered Athena's Weakest traits but is really helpful for pulling off the second hit of Shield Wall or helping your teammates by redirecting the damage from them to you. I personally rather pick this ability last, because you never know when you might need a taunt when your low on mana and also if you use the ability right you don't really need another second until the end. The order of leveling this skill is Personal Preference. |
|
Athena summons a group of Athenian warriors who do First:60/95/130/165/200 (+50% of your magical power) damage upon arrival, and after 2s does Damage: 80/150/220/290/360 (+50% of your magical power) Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 mana. Cooldown: 14 seconds. |
Her most punishing move if your opponents stay in there long enough. With a combo of Confound to draw them back in you can do some serious damage and do some pressure and support your teammates to get some kills. |
|
Athena picks a single allied god anywhere in the world, and launches herself up into the air, landing next to that god 4.2 seconds later. During that 4.2 seconds, the allied god mitigates 25% of the damage it's taking. Enemies in a 20 feet radius of when Athena lands take Damage: 50/500/650/800/950 (100% of your magical power Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 mana. Cooldown: 90 seconds. |
Becareful when using this ultimate, because it can put you in a worse situation, you never know what the opponents or your teammates position is on the other side. The Damage Reduction can be enough to help your teammates survive. When you land there try to position an use your ability where your team can get the most damage out of the situation or run away. |

As a solo laner, protection always help but if your being bursted by 2 AP Mages, Tank and Warrior, or huge burts of damage its always helpful to have great health regen and a large health pool.
For Arena I highly recommend Polynomicon, Its really funny to think people can actually escape you! Ha! Now also I'm not a big lifesteal fan, I tried using lifesteal for many characters but personally I feel its not great on some gods, for me Athena is one of those gods.
For General Conquest match where its a duo, I usually never bother to get Rod of Tahuti and get Hide of the Nemean Lion unless if I'm doing really well, or get some of the other Magical Protection Items included ^^Above. If you don't like Gauntlet of Thebes going with a Warlock Sash is a good option for a nice Tankish Hybrid Build like this one.
Now those 2 items that I said were highly controversial I usually only go for them for the amazing regen and it provides a large amount of Bulk too. There are definitely a lot of choices for Athena but for me this one suits me the greatest.
Also I really appreciates you guys for reading and commenting.
So I agree with the first guy Stone of Gaia in a way is a wasted item slot. And gaunlet of thebes? OH GOD, I can really see why you want this item, but all it gives is flat health. I know you want it for the power it gives you in Ethereal Staff, but it's just not worth it. An item I would HIGHLY recommend is Polynomicon it works GREAT with your passive and gives you nice sustain with the mana and lifesteal.
I'm not a massive fan of the Stone of Gaia, I find it to be a wasted slot.
What would you recommend in its place?
I thought about Pestilence if the enemy team has the right composition or a Void Stone as a general solution.
Other than that I had a lot of fun playing this build. Thank you!
I'm Glad you enjoyed the build. Pesitlence and Void Stone are great options as you said for the opponents. In this build as Athena there is a lot of Health so having regen/ Stone of Gaia is fun. Now instead of Pesitlence I usually use Idol of Concetration This item is just amazing to avoid large burts if you want a lot of Magic Power and don't want the regen. And the amount of health it provides also contributes to the Ethereal Staff.
Some other things to consider, in Game Modes such as Conquest, its always helpful to replace Rod of Tahuti with the more protections you might need. But back to the question, I feel that Bulwark of Hope or Idol of COncentration to help survive those large bursts! I prefer Void Stone in Arena or unless if my team needs some penetration and magical protection. Usually this helps assist my Mid-Laners when I gank.
Yet Pestilance is a good choice to pick up in assault or if the team has the right composition. A lot of Items are interchangeable and can vary based on your playstlye.
Thanks for the Feedback,
I hope you continue to enjoy this build.
Also I need to add some of those new Magical Items in my Guide.
