Introduction

To Kill a Mockingbird of Nope (Spoiler: You can't).

Greetings and Salutations!

My name is Firraria. I've written guides before this, such as A Guide to Xbalanque: The Hidden Jaguar, The Complete Beginner's Guide to SMITE, Fenrir: The Ultimate Jungle Guide, and now decided to write a new guide for my favorite god, Sun Wukong.

I'm going to try and teach you how to play Sun Wukong, AKA
The Bird of Nope.

Pros / Cons

Pros

Excellent peeler.
Great waveclear.
Good CC.
Amazing poke.
Amazing escapes (The Bird of Nope).

Cons

Not much sustain (outside his ult).
His abilities are easy to juke.
Long cooldowns (CDR FTW!)

Solo Lane Aggressive Build

Solo Beginning

Right off the bat, pick up Hand of the Gods rank 2, 2x Healing Potion, and Bluestone Pendant. Bluestone Pendant offers some great mana regeneration, early power, and decent chunk of health for so early in the game. You wont need Shielded Teleport until your first back, so that extra gold might as well go to something useful. The cooldown reduction on rank 2 Hand of the Gods (HOG for short) will give you a big boost to lane clearing potential.

Solo Core Items

_____________

__________
Warrior Tabi

Power, and speed. That's fairly straightforward, not much to say about it. The 40 physical power is incredibly useful.

_____________

__________
Jotunn's Wrath

Power, cooldown reduction, and penetration. This will put your CDR at 25% (although you will later cap it at 40%), and now your cooldowns are a lot shorter. Also, the power, penetration, and mana are big helps too.

_____________

__________
Hide of the Urchin

This provides a hefty amount of protections, both physical and magical, and grants you some extra health and mana as an added bonus! Definitely a good choice for a bruiser like Sun Wukong.

Other Items

____________

__________
Titan's Bane

This will provide a ton of penetration and plenty of power. It's a decent boost to your damage, so I say this item is essential. Although it's usefulness is dramatically lower in early-game when compared to late-game, so buy it during late-game!

____________

__________
Hydra's Lament

This will give you a big boost to power, cap your CDR, and give you even stronger burst damage. It's very effective to use after stunning an enemy with 72 Transformations.

Situational Items

_____________

__________
Shifter's Shield

A small amount of protections, and plenty of power. The passive is also amazing! Above 50% HP, this item will give you 20+ physical power, making 60 in total. Below 50%, this item provides 20+ protections of both kinds, making 35 protections in total. Definitely a great item, and works very nicely with Sun Wukong's passive.

_____________

__________
Void Shield

Lots of physical protections makes this item ideal for late-game, as ADCs (hunters) and assassins will be hitting very hard. Not only that, but 25 physical power and passive penetration is nothing to sneeze at!

_____________

__________
Runic Shield

If the enemies are really tough on magic power, or you're simply having trouble with magical enemies, pick this up! Provides plenty of magic protections without sacrificing too much power, and the passive is also very useful.

____________

__________
Brawler's Beat Stick

I generally wont use this item for Sun Wukong, as he isn't really focused in the area of basic attack damage. However, it can still be useful against physical healers (as compared to Pestilence), or if the enemy healers are bulky and you need that extra penetration.

____________

__________
Pestilence

Very useful if you're laning against a heal-heavy mage (example: Ra, Hel, Aphrodite). It provides a ton of protections and HP, so that's also an added bonus! (Always get this over Brawler's Beat Stick if you're playing support!)

____________
Magi's Blessing
__________
Magi's Blessing

Very useful when fighting a team with high CC.

____________

__________
Stone of Gaia

Great for when you're up against a lot of magical opposition. The healing bonus is also extremely useful, and synchronizes well with your ultimate, Somersault Cloud.

____________

__________
Sovereignty

A very great item for any support. It helps your allies with it's amazing aura, and provides you with a lot of health, and protections. 55 physical protections and 20 magical protections in total from this item alone make it a very nice choice.

Support Build

Support Beginning

At the start of the game, pick up Watcher's Gift, Hand of the Gods rank 2, and 2x Wards.
On your first back, pick up Reinforced Greaves. If you can't afford all of it right now, just wait until your second back to buy Reinforced Greaves.

Support Core Items

_____________

__________
Reinforced Greaves

A tiny bit of power, a decent chunk of health, faster movement speed, and 30% Crowd Control reduction. That's awfully nice for a support, eh? I definitely recommend these.

_____________

__________
Sovereignty

A very great item for any support. It helps your allies with it's amazing aura, and provides you with a lot of health, and protections. 85 physical protections and 20 magical protections in total from this item alone make it a very nice choice.

____________

__________
Heartward Amulet

It's like the opposite of Sovereignty. It offers lots of health, magical protection, and some decent mana regeneration with the MP5, not to mention the bonus physical protection from the passive.

__________
Bulwark of Hope

A very strong magical defense item, very useful for countering those pesky mages. The health and passive are both an added bonus that can help defend against any enemy

__________
Breastplate of Valor

Lots of CDR, physical protection, and a ton of mana. A strong pick for a support Sun Wukong, as it lets you keep sending out stuns/knockups to set up kills for your ADC.

____________

__________
Stone of Gaia

Great for when you're up against a lot of magical opposition. The healing bonus is also extremely useful, and synchronizes well with your ultimate, Somersault Cloud.

Skills

*Please note that the skill order and priority is the same for each build I use, support or solo or otherwise.

Undefeated Body

A decent passive, and can be a life saver in a tight spot! Although the critical strike bonus seems misplaced for this god, it's nonetheless a very useful passive!

The Magic Cudgel

This is what you want to dump all your skills points into (unless you can upgrade your ult), this skill does a lot of damage, is great for waveclear, and is amazing for poke. It does require some aiming though, so practice makes perfect.

Master's Will

Definitely your last priority for upgrading, this skill only really shines for the slowing utility. Use your tiger form in 72 Transformations and follow it up with Master's Will for a stun and slow combo.

72 Transformations

An amazing skill in general, mostly for the utility, but the tiger damage is also amazing.
The first form, the Ox, lets you charge forward as a huge Ox and knock away any enemy minions or gods in your path, damaging them, and you are not interrupted by slows, knockups, or roots. This is great if you want to deal damage to a large crowd of enemies, works decently for waveclear, and helps peel multiple enemies off an ally. This is also ideal if a crowd of enemies are blocking off a path for escape.. JUST PLOW RIGHT THROUGH THEM.

The second form, the Tiger, lets you sprint forward as a tiger, which will stun and damage the first enemy you hit, minion or god, so you can be stopped by minions. The form is vulnerable to all forms of CC. This has the most damage of any of your abilites. It's great for 1v1 encounters and chasing.

The final form, the eagle, this is the fastest form, immune to slows and roots. You transform into a majestic eagle and fly forward. Although you do not damage anyone with this form, you are extremely fast, making it possibly the best escape in the game. This is The Bird of Nope.

Somersault Cloud

Using this ability causes you to spin around your cudgel for a few moments, and then fly into the air, landing on a cloud. While on the cloud, as decoy that looks exactly like you will run around and attack enemies (using only basic attacks). You also regenerate 5% of your HP for every second you're on the cloud, and after a set time you will come smashing down onto the ground, dealing damage to whoever you hit. You can come smashing down early simply by clicking, however you wont get the full heals. Great for escapes if your 72 Transformations is on cooldown.

Skill Priority

Your skill priority for upgrading should be:

Gameplay

Solo: The Beginning

After buying your items with the 1500 provided gold (see the items section), follow the steps below for guaranteed awesomeness.

If solo lane is on the left, you'll want to help your jungler take out the speed buff (for him), and then have the jungler help you with your blue buff. HOG the blue buff, take it, then go into lane. Generally, your jungler will go into the lane with you and help push until he is level 3, then he'll go and do his own thing. Use The Magic Cudgel to clear waves, and you're all set.

If solo lane is on the right, you'll be going to the right mid camps, and helping your mid and jungler take them out. (Although sometimes the jungler will solo red buff instead of helping with mid camps). After that, you'll go over and help your jungler clear the red buff (for him). After that, have your jungler help you clear the blue buff, HOG it, and then take it, then go into your lane. Generally, your jungler will go into the lane with you and help push until he is level 3, then he'll go and do his own thing. Use The Magic Cudgel to clear waves, and you're all set.

Sometimes the enemies will invade your blue buff, so if they get it, well, sorry, you'll be without it. Sometimes they'll try to invade your when you're clearing it for yourselves, so be prepared to fight when you're clearing the camps.

Use your Hand of the Gods to clear waves whenever possible.

Support: The Beginning

After buying your items with the 1500 provided gold (see the items section), follow the steps below for guaranteed awesomeness.

If duo lane is on the left, help your ADC take the blue buff by using your HOG on it, and then letting your ADC take it.

If duo lane is on the right, help you ADC and the mid-laner clear the right mid camps, and then move to the blue buff. HOG the blue buff, let your ADC take it, then move into lane.

Sometimes the enemies will invade your blue buff, so if they get it, well, sorry, your ADC will be without it. Sometimes they'll try to invade your when you're clearing it for yourselves, so be prepared to fight when you're clearing the camps.

If you're support, always put the life of your ADC before your own life, which means that, only in desperate situations, sacrifice yourself while your ADC makes an escape.

General Sun Wukong Tips

In a tight spot and The Bird of Nope is on cooldown? No worries! Just fly into the sky with Somersault Cloud! This will give your 72 Transformations time to come off CD.

If the area is warded and you can see that an enemy is coming to gank your lane and he hasn't seen you yet, you can preemptively use your ult for some mega-confusion. The enemy will see your decoy without seeing you ult, and will naturally assume that it's actually you for the first couple seconds (until they realize that the decoy-version of you is extremely stupid). This will give you time to come crashing down on his face, for an unexpected somer-assault. See what I did there?

You use your ult to send down your decoy to tank tower hits while you dive for a kill.

During the laning phase, you can use The Magic Cudgel on a minion wave and then finish the minion wave off with your Master's Will or your Ox form (although generally using Master's Will for this is better, just in case you need 72 Transformations for something). However, this only works if The Magic Cudgel is at a high enough rank, 4 or 5, otherwise you simply wont deal enough damage.

General Support Tips Tips

You can use your tiger form to peel an enemy off an ally. You can also use your ox form to peel multiples enemies off of your ally.

You don't need to ward each entryway to your lane, you only need to ward the one nearest to the front ally tower and the front enemy tower, and not the middle entryway. Why? Because enemies will have to walk through one of those wards to get to the middle entryway anyway! This will save you a lot on wards.

Try to rotate for the mid camps whenever they're up, although don't be too greedy and steal them from your jungler!

The Magic Cudgel simply cannot deal enough damage to kill a minion/minion wave, especially when building support, so you can use this to your advantage. Use The Magic Cudgel to weaken enemy minions before your ADC uses his/her waveclearing ability, this way he/she can get all the last hits!

As a tanky support, you should be the first in lane of defense, and you should initiate teamfights with your tiger form. However, even though you're 1. tanky and 2. the first line of defense, you should know your limitations and know when to retreat. If your health is getting dangerously low then just retreat.

Sun Wukong is very good at stealing map objectives like The Gold Fury or The Fire Giant, because you can fly in with your bird, steal the objective, use your ult, then fly away with your bird again. To steal an objective, you want to get Hand of the Gods to rank 3.

*Future revisions to this section should be expected*

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for reading my guide!
This was very fun to write, as Sun Wukong is my favorite god!

Although I don't know how I can write a full Sun Wukong guide in the course of three days but fail to write a jungle Poseidon guide in the course of several months.

Satisfactory!

Conclusion

In conclusion, how you play is up to you, and this guide should not 1. be viewed as guaranteed skillz, or 2. be viewed as the one true play style. These is simply cookie-cutter guidelines, and no guide can make up for common sense.

Have suggestions and/or feedback? Let me know in the comments below! Also, if you see any broken coding, don't be afraid to tell me. Feedback is appreciated!

When is the best time to sell Bluestone Pendant? Should you sell if before the fourth item or wait till you need your last item then sell it, etc.

I've tried that, but I didn't really like it. The poke and lane clearing from his 1 seems more helpful, although the cheap cost and increased damage of his 2 is also pretty good. Idk. I'll mess around with that next time I play.

I don't really play wukong but I heard somewhere that you max his 2 in season 2? Maybe I'm wrong idk
