Passive: Sorrow
All of Anubis' abilities steal physical and magical protection from the target and he gains increased scaling to his item-based magical lifesteal. In addition, Sorrow grants Anubis an additional 30% reduction to all crowd control duration.
Ability Type: Buff/Debuff
Stolen per Tick: 7
Magical Lifesteal Scaling per Tick: +33%
Max Stacks: 3
Duration: 5s
The passive from Anubis is quite a useful one as it grants you more scaling off of lifesteal and grants you 21 free protection stealing which is a nice buff to have. Also don't remember that it grants you 30% CCR which is great
Ability 1: Plague of Locusts
A plague of locusts bellows forth from Anubis' mouth, smothering all enemies in the area and doing damage every .5s for 3s. Anubis is immune to knockback while channeling.
Ability Type: Cone
Damage per Tick: 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 / 95 (+40% of your magical power)
Maximum Damage: 210 / 300 / 390 / 480 / 570 (+240% of your magical power)
Cost: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100
Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11s
First ability in his kit will easily clear wave at level 1 and should be levelled second after getting your Grasping Hands done. A cheeky little thing I've found out is that you can counter Hercules's Earthbreaker by using this to grant you knockup immunity.
Ability 2: Mummify
Anubis fires a bandage projectile, mummifying and stunning his target.
Ability Type: Projectile
Stun Duration: 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.6 / 1.8 / 2s
Cost: 60
Cooldown: 18 / 17 / 16 / 15 / 14s
Initiate, escape, grab some space or simply give someone a blanket. This ability is quite versatile in a lot of ways. Wanna catch someone running away, throw your 2. Wanna run away and get some space? Throw your 2. Do you want to make sure that you land at least 20 ticks of your ult with a 2 second stun? Throw your 2 and ult. Very useful.
Ability 3: Grasping Hands
Anubis calls for help from the underworld as hands penetrate the ground and claw at his enemies, doing damage and slowing every .5s for 2s.
Ability Type: Ground Target
Damage per Tick: 25 / 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 (+35% of your magical power)
Maximum Damage: 100 / 160 / 220 / 280 / 340 (+140% of your magical power)
Slow: 25%
Radius: 20
Cost: 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110
Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11s
The first ability you wanna set down as Anubis before you even throw a wrap. His best wave clear which can even challenge Kukulkan who is said to be the best wave clear mage.
Ultimate: Death Gaze
Anubis focuses all of his energy into a piercing gaze, doing damage to all enemies in the path, every 0.1 seconds for 3 seconds.
Ability Type: Line
Damage per Tick: 23 / 28 / 33 / 38 / 43 (+15% of your magical power)
Max Damage: 690 / 840 / 990 / 1140 / 1290 (+450% of your magical power)
Cost: 90
Cooldown: 90 / 85 / 80 / 75 / 70s
Probably one of the most damaging abilities against squishes ever invented, Death Gaze can rip through squishes and even leave tanks injured. Just remember to use Mummify to guarantee at least 20 ticks of damage with the last 10 being hit or miss.
The main instrument and one that should be rushed quickly, it's relatively cheap and can easily be utilised for getting even more damage out of your abilities. |
Pen boots = best boots for Anubis, early pen followed by 45 magical power and 18% movement speed is great too have. However, if you're finding yourself running low on mana consider picking up it's little brother Shoes of Focus to grant you 250 mana and 10% CDR |
Ever since Spear of the Magus got nerfed then it's cocking-gun cousin over here has taken centre stage in being the go to item for penetration. Sure whilst it only grants 70 Magical power and 33% penetration, take into consideration that you've already got 15 pen from your Shoes of the Magi so you will be penetrating through a lot of their armour. |
To give you some extra "OOMF!" in your damage will be this bad boy over here...MP5, Power and CDR Makes this a must have for most mages. |
If you want more mana and even more power then I'd suggest swapping Pythagorem's Piece for this. Just make sure that you get it early so you're not stacking late game. |
Warlock's Sash | If health is an issue then a herbal remedy of green tea and Tofu helps....Oh wait this is Smite. Warlock's sash is a great pick up for all your needs of more HP, Mana and power. Like with Book of Thoth Stack early and stack often. |
Healers being a problem and are healing up any damage you manage to get to them? This is a perfect item for you to pick up, reducing healing by 40% is great to counter-act most healers such as Aphrodite and Ra |
Spirit Robe was one of those items that people used to depend on such as warriors, it gave CDR and nice protections. With S3 coming around, it's even better granting CDR and CCR and with a passive to reduce damage taken for a little while being really nice for Anubis. |
Magi's blessing | Another item from the Cloak tree being probably the best defence for people who don't want to get Purification or finding them burning it too often. This gives you a nifty bubble to absorb 1 hard CC or root effect. Along with 350 health and 15 magical and physical protection, always worth a look. |
TIP #1: Do the Bart!
I remember hearing this when Combat Blink was a thing, there was this tactic where you would blink in and Mummify the target within arms reach. It was known as the "Bart". Now with Season 3 out Blink is one of these things were it's risky to take as a mage as you need to use it pre-emptively to taking damage. But you can still use it as such. Just be careful using it or even taking it as an active.
TIP #2: Squishy Squasher!
ALWAYS! target the squishes with Anubis, whilst you may be able to burn through tanks health it won't be enough to secure kills and get ahead. Always go for the ADCs, Mids and Junglers to make sure you're effectively using your abilities to wipe them from the board.
TIP #3: Know your limits
You're a mage, so act like one. Don't go into tower just because you got the damage but bait them out. A good thing I like to do is casually farm lane and try and bait the jungler into the lane to see if he can gank. Then follow with a Mummify followed by a swift slap back to the fountain. Also, consider rotating before the other mid laner since Anubis has terrible mobility and needs to be at least a few units ahead of his enemy.
Anubis was a strong mage and still holds up today. Play safe with him and make sure to wrap and slap them back to the underworld.
Happy Hunting,

Why exactly? Don't tell me to do something without first explaining at least.
LOL! Your making it obvious you haven't actually tested what you're suggesting to build now!
It's only usable by physical characters, so I'm guessing you've never actually considered using it with Anubis, and you just slapped it into this build so you could tick 'having a defensive option' off the build checklist.
If you'd of tried to test it in game before putting it in this build, you would of realised your own mistake ages ago.
Remove that Ancile from the Defense items please.
