Introduction

This is my first build, so bear with me, this build is for Sun Wukong can be used in Joust or Solo, but mostly built around solo lane. This build is for mostly casual games as I have not played a lot of ranked with him to share if this works. This dude can be a bully, with pretty strong jungle clear to steal camps, pretty good minion clear throughout the game. He is a relatively safe god, because of his 3, and his ult as long as it is timed right.

Abilities

First things first, you gotta know what he does to use him the best.

His passive, Undefeated Body is pretty self explanatory, when his health drops below 40% of his max, he starts hurting more and being able to tank more.

His 1, The Magic Cudgel is his main minion clearing ability, and jungle clearing because it boosts damage done to jungle camps. This is the first ability you want to fully upgrade because it also adds some poke potential, and can secure those kills when the enemy camps in their tower from you overpowering them.

His 2, Master's Will is an area attack in a circle around him, this deals some damage and puts on a 30% slow on, which combines well with his stun on the 3, when the enemy is attempting to escape.

His 3, 72 Transformations is very versatile, with the three different transformations he can go into, his first being the bird, which cant be rooted or slowed, this is his main run away from enemies and very few gods can chase after a nicely timed bird, his second is a tiger, which does a large amount of damage and stuns, great for targeting their ADC or mage to get them to back of or set up a kill for you (depending on how much damage you put into the build) or your team mates. the third transformation is an big ox, he is immune to slows, roots, and knockups. He is slower then the bird so he is not as good used for a run away but does have his moments, used better as a minion clear, as it can hit the whole wave and gods at the same time.

his ult, Somersault Cloud can be used both attacking or running away, or for just staying in the fight longer. His ult, is after a short windup he leaps into the sky and heals 5% of his health every second, and lasts 5 seconds, and he creates a clone of himself. This clone can take a few hits from a tower and can be used for when you tower dive into a low health enemy that you know you can secure a kill on. This ability can be used to stay in a fight, or lane longer by staying in the cloud and healing up to 25% of his health back. or can be used to retreat by leaping away then using the 3 to peel outta that joint.

Item choices

Starters- Warrior's Blassing is a must, he is a warrior, just makes sense, beginning of Gladiator's Shield because he is an ability based god. in the starting stages of the game he does not use enough mana to need more then one pot as long as you get camp, and you can take 2 health pots with remaining gold.

after you finish getting Gladiator's Shield after the first back for the health back and mix of prots and power. Warrior Tabi are the best boots, because he gets the nice 40 power boost from them on his abilities which he uses often, and the Ninja Tabi just do not benefit him as well because of his not as strong autos.

From here the build is mostly dependant on who you are against, against a warrior with the prots from Gladiator's Shield you have enough prots against most people to take a damage item like Jotunn's Wrath for the CDR and extra mana. but based on who you are fighting, for a mage like Hades or Zhong Kui, Pestilence will probably work better for the new magic prots and anti heal. or Ancile for the CDR and hybrid. Shifter's Shield is also strong if you want to build on the tanky side, helps on both ends of offense and defense. Genji's Guard is also a nice pickup because you wont have to worry about buying anymore mana potions with the 40 MP5

for the rest of the build, you want to build mostly hybrid, with maybe one or two full defense items, like Mantle of Discord for the CDR and CC immunity passive. Void Shield, Shifter's Shield, Runic Shield and Ancile are good for more magic prots. a few items of note for situational are Pestilence for anti heal, and Hide of the Nemean Lion against a team that is very centralized around autos, and the MP5 and mana boost is a nice bonus for a mana intense god

Beginning, Mid and Late game

Beginning game he is pretty good, able to hold his own quite well. can keep up with most people in getting the totem too. He can bully lanes and poke well enough with his 1.

Mid game is where he shines, the only drawback is mana conservation. he can clear very well, take camps and damage your foe very well. you can be agressive if you get up and not be very scared when taking enemy mana, and harpies as long as the 3 is up, which can get him out of a lot of situations. His jungle clear is pretty good on his 1 and 2 combo. can even gank middle lane if enough bullying is going on, which is very possible with Sun Wukong

late game he becomes a little less of a bully, but can still deal damage, instead of replacing boots with a hybrid item, it is usually better to get a full prot item. His damage starts to fall off slightly, but has enough to bully the squishy targets and distract them for his team long enough for his team to kill them.

Summary

Sun Wukong is a bully to almost every other god in the lane if he is played right, he has potential to be able to steam roll competition, and when he gets a lead he can take enemy jungle camps quite well with his 1, and saving the 3 as an escape if he gets collapsed onto by mid and jungle. Built hybrid he is quite good, he can deal out large amounts of damage while also being able to tank, and then heal 25% of his health back with his ult.

You don't need Jotunn's Wrath to clear camps with Sun Wukong, you just don't. Get it later in the build if you want but you don't need it early. (and only get it later in the build if your build has only 20% CDR or less).

Suggested example build: Glad shield, warrior tabi, breastplate, oni hunter's/pestilence, urchin, void shield, sell glad shield for mantle or spirit robe, lategame sell boots for damage/hybrid item (crusher/blackthorn/runeforged/shifters) or defence. If you're against a magical opponent in lane you could get genjis after warrior tabi, then get void shield, then urchin, and in place of where void shield previously was can be a situational item.

Alternatively: Start with warrior's blessing and tier 1 soul eater and pots, go Soul Eater, warrior tabi, void shield, oni hunter's garb, urchin, jotunn's wrath, sell boots for defence/hybrid item (e.g. blackthorn).

Also add Shell, Heavenly Wings and Phantom as alternative/situational relics.

Mage's Blessing works on Wukong too, but you should be fine with Warrior's Blessing.

And add Midgardian/Brawlers/Spirit Robe as situational.

I agree, you don't NEED it, that is why there is defensive options. but it sure helps, being able to clear a camp 5-10 seconds faster is a really nice bonus, keeps you ahead in lane easier. late game increases in damage just do not help as much as it does in the early game, I understand it certainly is not common, but I find it works very often.

Thanks for the item ideas though, will be sure to add Brawlers, and spirit robe.

Thanks for feedback

Hello cookiesandmilk,

As a warrior solo laner you should always focus on build a tank. I understand that you want damage but I would recommend you just rid of Jotunn's Wrath. It's very unnecessary and always build a defense against your lane opponent.

Runic Shield and Shifter's Shield are early game items and should be your first item if you intend to do them, however, for solo, I wouldn't recommend they. Same for The Crusher with a plus: why the Hell would you build it on a solo laner? Unless if you are very fed against enemies without protections I can't see this item as a good option.

A good solo build with damage could be: Warrior Tabi, Gladiator's Shield, Blackthorn Hammer if ahead or a properly defense ( Breastplate of Valor if against a physical/ Ancile if magical), then the defense or the blackthorn, which one is missing. The second defense Ancile if you build breastplate/breastplate if you build ancile. Void Shield, sell gladiator's for Mantle of Discord, sell boots, buy elixir of speed and replace boots with Masamune.
This build will keep you a decent tank and you will still doing damage.

If you want to damage players I would recommend prioritize Master's Will over 72 Transformations 'cause it has a good damage, area damage and lower cooldown.

Also consider King Arthur as the highest threat. Broken as **** and if even with defenses you can't beat him imagine without it. Same for Nox and Ganesha both are heavy counters due their silences.

I see where you are coming from based on Jotunn's Wrath being third item, keep in mind that is for casual games, and understand that as a Solo laner that being a tank is a large priorty, but that is why I included defensive items in that row, I personally enjoy it as it adds pressure to the enemy, helps with camps, increases CDR. I do agree with blackthorn hammer though, that is a good suggestion and have not noticed it, have not tried it but will try to soon and add it into the build.
Concerning The Crusher being in the build, I do agree and im not actually sure why I put that on there! I have removed it because it is not good in solo, and not even all that good on Sun Wukong. I should have included items to get after selling gladiator's shield also because I realize that is a very heavy early game item which falls off late game.
I find it a toss up between Master's Will and 72 Transformations, I chose 72 Transformations because of the relatively good engage with the tiger, high damage, and it includes a stun, though Master's Will priortized first can also work well.

I agree with King Arthur, he is broke, though I have beaten some in Solo with sun Wukong, ill be sure to add him in! I think while Nox and Ganesha are threats to him, they are not seen enough in solo to be a large threat, and when seen in other lanes, Sun Wukong usually has enough survivability to live through Ganesha's silence, just with a slight decrease in his Damage output for a few seconds.

Thanks for the feedback, it is much appreciated! I will try and add what I can shortly, though keep in mind this is a casual game build that I have mostly had success with, in lots of games I have come out with both top damage and top mitigated on the team!

I didn't say your build isn't good or can't work, just saying that you can improve it without you lose the essence which is "A tank doing damage". Your build in fact is good.

I understand why you prioritize 72 Transformations and it's okay. I'm just saying that although the tiger has a good damage and stun, is the only form without any immunities, stops at the first enemy (including minions), is harder to control, so a lot of time it doesn't worth and you end using Ox, mainly in long teamfights, maybe Master's Will would be better for these situations.

About Ganesha and Nox, you don't have necessarily put only solo laners on threats. You can just warn people that even with them playing other roles they can be a problem if they rotate and mainly late game when teams group up ;)

And for last but not least, my last suggestion is apply some bb code on your guide so you can make it better for readers read it (you can find help about it here and here)

Thank you for your attention and answer.

You could build Jotunn's Wrath on Sun Wukong but definitely not as a third item. But that was mainly for a Soul Eater bruiser build.

Im sure The Crusher could work as a boots replacement.

Also Teleport Glyph is missing as a relic option.

cookiesandmilk | May 13, 2019 9:57pm
I have listed defensive options as an alternative, I have found success with it because of the pressure it adds. Keep in mind that this is for casual, was just posting what I have had success with, and have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of! I have taken The Crusher off of the build, because it just does not work on a Solo Laner all that well, nor on Sun Wukong Solo all that well.

Would have included Teleport Glyph in relics options, but I get it as my starter (where it is listed) and do not see any other good alternatives for a first relic on Sun Wukong.

Thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated!
