Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Da Ji, The Nine-Tailed Fox.

This is more focused towards new players in a sense of tips but the build is general and notes are left to give examples on when to build certain items. Still a work in progress so expect changes to the example builds page and notes. (warning, its ugly)

Ability Tips

Ability Tips

One Thousand Cuts

2
Use this ability when running away as it provide movement speed and damage mitigation when being damaged by enemies from behind.

Trickster Spirit

3
Trickster Spirit has a small delay before you teleport, this means if you change the direction you are aiming that is where you will be teleported. You can use this by going behind players when teleporting to avoid attacks. Can be used over walls.

Basic early pathing

NOTE: This pathing is just for players who are new to jungling.

Key points to take from this typical path:
  • Split the XP from the speed buff (1) with your mid laner so they can get level 2 on the first wave.
  • Do not ignore your solo laners mana buff (3), it is vital for 99% of gods played in that lane and they can lose lane just off having no lvl 1-5 mana buff. It is also extra XP for you.
  • If you feel like there isn't an opportunity to get an early kill for your mid-laner you can attempt to get the mid harpies (4) but often this will lead to a fight with the enemy jungler. So I recommend maybe attempting to get one then move over to the damage camp (5).
  • When you get to the mid lane at level 2 you may not be able to secure a kill but you can blink onto them and put them low enough that they are forced to play far back allowing for damage buff invades etc.

Notes on builds

Builds

Just a small bit on attempting to justify why I chose these builds although I suck at writing. (I promise I don't love Shifter's Shield)

Damage Example Build

Replace Jotunn's Wrath with Brawler's Beat Stick when against healers/gods such as Thanatos.

Hydra's Lament is better to be taken after Transcendence due to it not being useful without the extra power. It is a good item for Da Ji as she works really well with auto attack cancels.

Transcendence is a really good item to pick up but in no way should it be taken first and shouldn't be taken every game.

Extremely generic build. Heartseeker is also an option instead of Bloodforge or Titan's Bane. If protections are lacking then replace Titan's Bane.

Defensive items can be picked up if needed, take Void Shield if you do need more pen but look at the enemy teams build before deciding.

Physical Defense

I like to take Void Shield for more physical defense and pen.

I also like the Shifter's Shield just due to the fact that you get the extra 35 power, then when your escaping with lower health you recieve the 35 magical+physical protections while using your One Thousand Cuts to also have 20-40% damage mitigation.

Against Healers With Defense

INFO: This build is pretty random. I need to try a number of more builds but I would typically build Shifter's Shield against Anubis since you keep that power while getting enough protections to survive his ult (although you should be able to escape).

Assuming it's an Anubis or Hel middle, I personally wouldn't take Transcendence to just get the extra power and 20% CDR earlier from Jotunn's Wrath.

This is also presuming the physical gods are not as much as a problem. If they are pick up a Shifter's Shield.

Ancile in this would go over 40% CDR so its prefered not to but it's also not the end of the world.

Against Tanks

With this build, before replacing Warrior Tabi, you have 20% CDR but if you replace boots with a Spirit Robe or Mantle of Discord you will get 30% CDR and when you get Potion of Physical Might it adds up to 40%.

I personally like Brawler's Beat Stick when targeting tanks due to the majority of them building sustain items and if you want gank solo lane (majority of the time not a good idea) they can survive by using the shields and the healing potions.

When to change items

When to start into Brawler's Beat Stick

Against gods such as Thanatos, Terra or Sylvanus (+many more healers).
Check the mid laners build, if it's a god such as Scylla with a t2 bancrofts start I would start Brawler's Beat Stick.

To take or not to take Transcendence when starting Brawler's Beat Stick

Personally if I know I don't need the earlier power and extra 10% CDR then yes, but if I want the extra CDR then I take Jotunn's Wrath in it's place.

What shield to use if wanted

One way of doing it is by looking at your CDR, if your over-capping take the one without CDR. Just don't take Gladiators or Beserkers.

What do I replace my boots with?

It really depends on: do you want more damage or do you want more defense? If you just want power Heartseeker is probably your best option, provides extra pen and mana (which in turn gives you a very very small amount of power from Transendence) plus its % health passive.

For defensive my preferred two are Spirit Robe and Mantle of Discord, personally I would take the Spirit Robe if I already have an item such as Shifter's Shield to really make use of the passive (which is 3s of 15% damage mitigations on hard CCs). Majority of the time I would take Mantle of Discord especially if I don't already have some hybrid items, it has a passive which you can utilize to escape but I do recommend picking it up with Shifter's Shield as the two can really make a difference on escaping.

I would of listed Magi's Cloak in the items to replace but if you really need it you would've/should've picked it up already.

Cooldown: 10.2s
Paolao (4)
Shot Damage: 305.78

Skill Leveling

One option is to level the 2->1->2->3 but personally I prefer getting the 2->3->1 just due to the safety of it. You can blink on to mid and use the 3 to escape on to the mid harpies.

Updates

16/10/2019 - Started guide.
17/10/2019 - Added a terrible notes section. Rough extra builds.
19/10/2019 - Warriors replacement on extra builds example and changed notes.
19/10/2019 - Provided reasoning on replacement items.
14/12/2019 - Basic pathing info for new players.
11/02/2020 - Updated for the new season, will double-check stats but trans is more of an important pick up this season.
1/03/2020 - Added 100-0 arena build, which is totally not just a normal build with rage in it. As it's mentioned while Rage is fun, there is nothing to say it doesn't work in arena.

Hello Greedy,

Congrats for your guide.
IMO you should consider post a build using Elixir of Speed and the item that would replace Warrior Tabi. Also, avoid write long explanations on notes because people usually don't read it/it's not good read it on mobile devices, instead, create a topic to explain your items on the guide.

I have updated the notes and they are in the guide. I will add a build by build but is there anyway to change the purchase order on the build section? So can I add a purchase order before the suitational items for example or do I have to completely re-do it?

Well you can either re-do it, or add situational items section at the bottom of the builds.
