Who is
Bellona?
Bellona is the goddess of war and is a warrior in SMITE. She has a huge amount of utility and damage in her kit. Master of War provides her with protections and a nice movement speed bonus. Shield Bash and Scourge provides both defensive power and CC. Bludgeon gives her a huge amount of area damage. Finally, Eagle's Rally is a very powerful ult, giving everything damage, protection and CC with a pretty low cooldown.
What is in this guide?
This guide will cover a lot about Bellona from itemization, skills, gameplay and many more. If you like it, upvote will be a pleasure. So, enjoy it and give me feedbacks if there is something wrong with my guide. I love feedbacks. |
Pros
+ Flexible+ High Area Damage + A lot of CC + Scale Well with Items + Ult helps all teammates + Seriously, Girl Warriors (that pink hair is so good)
Bellona is a very flexible god. She could be either the tanker or the one that deals damage. Also, however you build her, she still deals a lot of damage with both her abilities and auto attacks. All of her abilities (except Bludgeon have CC which is very good in teamfight. She also scales well with items, being able to deal more damage or sustain longer and able to carry the team later on. Eagle's Rally provides all teammates bonus protections and physical power which is extremely good in teamfight

Cons
- Hard to master- If you mess up, you're screwed - Basic abilities have long cooldown - Can be mana hungry - Ult only affects a small radius - No real hard CC
With all of her pros, Bellona has her cons too. She can be hard to master as she needs to use the right weapon at the right time. And once you messed up with your weapons, your power drop significantly. This is caused because her basic abilities all has long cooldown. She also has a little mana problem early and even later. Finally, her ult only affects a small radius and as she has no real hard CC except the stun on her ult, enemy can easily run away with movement abilities

Starting Items
Bluestone Pendant This is a really great starting item for Bellona. She only has a little amount of mana but she needs to use a lot of abilities to be relevant. This item helped her a bit on that side. It is recommended to keep this item until you want to buy your 6th item. We don't need Death's Toll as Bellona has enough sustain in her kit. |
Healing Potion As we already have Bluestone Pendant we don't need any Mana Potion. Healing Potion is important when your Scourge only heals for so little |
Boots I prefer to buy early boots. If you want to buy more potions for sustain, it's good either. |
Sprint |
Any Actives You can pretty much take any active. If you feel like being pushed or is jungling, takes Hand of the Gods. If you need to chase, run or counter slows, takes sprint. If enemy has some hard CC, takes Purification Beads. If you need to counter burst, take Aegis Amulet . If you need to counter heal or need more CC, takes Weakening Curse. If you want more damage and don't care about being damaged, take Achilles' Spear. |
Bumba's Mask Good for jungling. Makes you faster to clear, more sustain and more gold. |
|
Boots Choices Both boots are good and usually it depends on your playstyle or the enemy. If you need to deal more sustain damage, take Ninja Tabi. Especially good when enemy are a bunch of tanky. Though, if you want to burst enemies down, take Warrior Tabi. |
|
Attack speed item I don't know why only a little of people buy any of this items as their first item. Bellona, early in the game, scales really really well with attack speed items. First of all, it increases her DPS which is extremely good when you are dueling enemy in the solo lane. Second, it gives you the ability to clear faster. Finally and the most important, it enables you to proc Scourge faster which pretty much increase your sustainability, defense and damage (the longer you stay, the more damage you deal right?) I like to take Hastened Fatalis since i want to chase enemies easier since later, your CC is not good enough to stick to an enemy. Though you can buy any other items. The exectuioner for protection shredding, Asi for sustain and Odysseus' Bow for more area of damage if the enemies are squishies. |
|
Core Items So, i know your Scourge actually heals a ton, but later on you won't be using it as explained above and you will use more Bludgeon. Devourer's Gauntlet doesn't only provides Bellona with tons of damage but all enemies hit are lifestealed, so you pretty much can be healed double, triple or even more the amount of it. Next, Shifter's Shield provides a lot of damage and some nice protections which enables Bellona to stay in the middle of a fight longer. |
|
Offensive Options If everything is going well, buying more offensive options is a good choice. Brawler's Beat Stick is a really good item against healer. Jotunn's Wrath gives more damage, less cooldown and some penetration, which is good against squishier target. Titan's Bane when you have problem against tanky gods. You can also buy The Executioner if enemy is not super tanky and you haven't bought this item yet. Bloodforge is only when you are really really dominating. |
Magi's Blessing |
Defensive Options If you are too squishy and you feel like you die a lot, buy more defensive options. Spirit Robe when the enemies are pretty good in both the physical damage dealer and magical damage dealer. Magi's Blessing when you die because of enemy's hard CC. Mystical Mail when you are losing to physical damage dealer. Bulwark of Hope when you are losing to magical damage dealer. |
|
Boots Choices Both boots are good and depends on the enemy. If enemy has lots of CC, buy Reinforced Greaves for the CC reduction. If your team needs a little bit more damage, take Warrior Tabi |
|
First and Second Defensive Items The first item depends on the enemy lanter. If the enemy solo laner is another warrior, taking Mystical Mail is good to counter their damage as well for pushing. Meanwhile as mage usually are able to poke, buying Stone of Gaia is good for the sustain. The second item depends on the enemy team. If the enemy has a lot of physical damage dealer, buying Breastplate of Valor or Mystical Mail if you haven't is good. Meanwhile, buying Runic Shield is good when the enemy has a lot of magical damage dealer (better to buy Bulwark of Hope if you haven't bought Stone of Gaia). |
Core Item I think Spirit Robe just give so much. First it gives the protections you need, both in the active and the passive. Second it gives you cooldown reduction which is pretty good when you are a tanker since you need to use a lot of abilities. |
|
Late Game Options Witchblade when against physical dealer enemy. Pestilence when agaisnt healer. Bulwark of Hope when against magical dealer enemy. Shifter's Shield if you want more damage. Titan's Bane if enemy is really tanky. |
Hide of the Urchin I don't take Hide of the Urchin because i'm not looking for kills. And you don't really want to roam that much early since you want to get fed by farming your lane. |
|
Crit Items Why should Bellona even build crit items? All she need is raw physical power and some attack speed. Crit isn't necessary. You want to deal area damage, not single targeting an enemy god. Additionally, even with Hastened Fatalis, you won't have enough attack speed to maximize the use of crit |
Qin's Sais The last nerf to Qin's Sais just makes this item much weaker. I don't think building this is still worth it |
Early Game
Early game you probably want to farm as much as possible. Bellona just scale so well with items.
Try to lane as safe as possible. If you thing the lane is in favor, you can pick on the enemies. Buy wards to be able to locate if the enemy jungler is going to gank you or not.
Try to keep Scourge as long as possible so you don't waste a lot of mana. Also, early game Scourge is really good. It is best to use it for all occasion, especially dueling. Try not to recall if possible.
Mid Game
If you reach level 5 without feeding the enemy, congratulation, you have reach mid game successfully. Your enemy laner and you might want to back now and regain some health and mana and buy items. Quickly rush your boots (ninja or tabi) and maybe another tier 1 item or an active and get back to lane ASAP.
Now, you should be a bit more aggresive since your abilities are so good early game. Once again, I must say that Scourge is so good. There is only little skirmishes at this time of the game so using Scourge is still a good idea.
If possible try to not join as many teamfight as possible. A farming Bellona can carry the game much harder. Though, if you are going tanky, it is probably a good idea to help your teammate.
If you are able to push your lane, good. Try to help another lane that has problem. Otherwise, try not to feed
Late Game
Late game you should be fine if you are doing fine. Carry Bellona is a semi initiator, so you are not supposed to enter the battlefield first. If possible ask your tank to initiate the fight.
Once the fight start, you can pretty much deal as much damage while your tank keep ccing the enemy. Use your Eagle's Rally to chain CC the enemy. The combos will be explained below.
Combos
Early game combos (poking)
Scourge >> Auto Attacks
Scourge disables enemy from auto attacking, possibly causing you to win the trade. Otherwise if the enemy can counter initiate you successfully, don't worry. You can hit minions with the Scourge to return you to full health
Teamfight Combo
Scourge >> Eagle's Rally >> Shield Bash >> Bludgeon
Scourge disables enemy from attacking you while Eagle's Rally help you to stun and CC. Next, use your Shield Bash so they won't run the Bludgeon for the damage and to give you the weapon to deal area damage
Burst combo
Eagle's Rally >> Bludgeon
This combo enables you to hit your Bludgeon to as many enemy as possible.
Safe Initiation
Eagle's Rally >> Scourge >> Bludgeon
Eagle's Rally is used for the initiation while Scourge is used to disable you to attack you then use Bludgeon for the damage. Save the Shield Bash for running away.
Against mobile enemies
Eagle's Rally >> Bludgeon >> Shield Bash >> Scourge
Once again Eagle's Rally is for initiation, but now we use Bludgeon for the damage. However, it is possible for the enemy to run before we hit them. So slow them with your Shield Bash then use Scourge for the extra range.
No ultimate
Shield Bash >> Scourge >> Bludgeon
Pretty much the same as the safe initiation but instead, you use Shield Bash for the initiation. It's pretty risky though.
Thank you for reading this guide for Bellona, the Goddess of War. If you see any mistake, please leave a feedback. Until next guide. Good luck and good game
