If you're going against 2+ tanks, then swap Spear of Desolation for Staff of Myrddin
If you're NOT going against healers, then swap Divine Ruin for Book of Thoth
If you're dealing with heavy poke, Typhon's can be a good alternative to Ob Shard, also pairs well with Book of Thoth for the passive magical power boost.
Significantly higher magical power & great penn + poly follow-up shot, but 30% cd.
If you can deal with having 20% cd until level 20 and only 30%cd overall, this slaps.
sell gem of fate when you need to free up space for typhons. Holds you over with 10% cd until you can buy pendulum.
For Experimental Build:
NOTE: Swap spear of desolation for calamitous rod of tahuti and buy potion of power. This will keep you at 40% cd, but it's better to swap flat pen for % at the end of the game.
Nox is a high skill gap god because it's difficult to hit her combo.
That said, her combo hits extremely hard. 50% cooldown gives you a lot of opportunities to hit it.
Nox is worth much more than just dealing damage, though the damage is extremely significant. Her large silence circle and long stun are fantastic for aiding your teammates. Especially to protect against CC (interrupting Baccus burp, Ymir freeze, ***ba's entire kit, etc. This buys your team a lot of time and can shift entire fights from defense to offense.

I do suggest personally going Gem into Chronos rather than Sands. This frees you up to get 20% more CDR through other items, or 10% + potion or buff. If you don't need early anti-heal ( Divine Ruin), grabbing Spear of Desolation after Chronos is good unless facing a tanky comp, and is still functional in either case.
I really think Staff of Myrddin is a good item for her...combines CDR and pen, and you should get some function out of the ult, as you should often be using the ult in the middle of a fight, not just at the end to pick off a fleeing, low-health enemy.
Hope some of these suggestions are helpful.
Also, I didnt know Potion of Power has a 10% cdr - that's a great note!
Overall, i've moved on from double stacking with nox. I'll update this to reflect my current build setup.
Side note: The description for Obsidian says that it procs upon first ability "CAST", but in testing it looks like it procs on Shadow lock and not on Siphon Darkness.. which changes things quite a bit for build planning.
I still think it's not really worth...both in early game and in late game. Early, if you're going Sands into Chronos (if that's still your pref) and you get the blue buff, you really shouldn't have mana issues early. If this was Conquest, you might run out of mana and I'd def consider BoT there, but this is Joust and you'll be backing more often, so it shouldn't be too bad there. Late, I still think other items will be better than Baubles.
Ob Shard CAN be nice on a long distance ult situationally, but in general, you're not having to deal all the damage on your lonesome, you're often going to deal good burst with your 2-1 combo, and your teammates can help secure kills. Other items with additional stats and utility can be of great help here.
Ignore the experimental, I'm just playing around with if there's any use case for Polynomicon as it's a fun item (Fight: 1-2 combo, basic attack, dash, basic attack).
What do you think about the update?
In Joust I would still prefer to try to get things to work without Book of Thoth, but I get the appeal of the high mana pool. As a standard build, I would skip it, go straight into Spear of Deso, Charon's, Tahuti, then last item would be situational, considering Reaver, E-Staff, Myrddin, etc. If I needed anti-heal, I would get Divine in place of Deso, then go into Myrddin, Tahuti, and again last item situational.
I think Spear of the Magus is potentially okay, but mainly because of the extra % pen. The lifesteal is sort of throwaway, and the passive is greatly nerfed from its previous iteration, and it isn't nearly as effective overall. Note also that for any ability that has AOE/multi-target potential, lifesteal is decreased to 1/3 of the original value. Officially: "Magical Lifesteal works with the damage dealt by both abilities and basic attacks, but Area of Effect abilities have diminished Lifesteal efficiency (33%)." So honestly it's pretty darn low for her abilities.
On your experimental build, I probably wouldn't invest into 3 items with lifesteal. Again partially due to low lifesteal function overall, and also because any enemy anti-heal is going to reduce the effectiveness of all of those items.
Charon's has same pen as Typhon's, but the HP5 is more consistent than lifesetal (and 35 isn't bad), and the MP5 depending on your other items is great. The MS is just good utility overall, and consistent. But I'm sure any of these 20% pen choices are fine.
As such, I often focus less on power (though still always focusing on some power), I make sure I get the pen and CDR, and I don't get multiple lifesteal items with the main purpose of getting better Typhon's passive effect. To me, that's like getting aura items for Ares just to boost his power, and not choosing other items that might have better utility and function for the team.
I hear the Sands early, it's definitely better than Gem. But I find Chronos' Pendant more appealing than Sands of Time for the extra passive CDR, and if you go with both of those, you're sort of maxed out on CDR late-game unless you choose the Alternate upgrade, and I like the additional CDR options of Myrddin, Deso, Pythag's (more for the team aura utility).
In the end, I think it's just mindset and focus on Nox's role in a Joust team.
Starting with vampiric shroud, lost artifact, and chalice of healing gives a lot of sustain. Hitting the entire wave with 1/2 pays for itself and heals a lot.
Stats at level 20 (with power pot):
Magic Power: 833
Lifesteal: 38
Flat Pen: 10 (note it's 25 until level ~17 for early game)
% Pen: 30 (note that it's 20 until level ~17)
cooldown: 40%
MP5: 100
I think this is a good balance of both world as it hits hard, has sustain, and maintains 40% cd to do what nox does best.
I know it's very unique to the typical nox build rec, but give it a try for a game. curious to hear your thoughts!
For the damage potential, I like the "Penn Build" in general and know how it would work. It's good to have the high CDR early in the build.
In the case you don't need Divine, I do like the Typhon sub. Note it's getting nerfed next patch.
I still think Magus is a bit weak, and depending on comp would just go Myrddin or Reaver or something.
I'll try this though and see how it feels.
I was giving the enemy Nox fits. The lifesteal was nice and I did maintain health obviously better than normal (when I have 0 lifesteal). Note I also grabbed a Chalice of Healing sort of mid-late just to have something extra.
I had just finished Typhon's at level 17. I'd say each game is going to be different and you might just say after finishing your last item, swap Deso for Tahuti and grab the power potion whenever you can.
Compared to any other mage, I think this fits Nox best. Damage and team effectiveness is tremendous. Nox is slippery with how fast the dash comes back up and the output you have. Had to pivot given the nerfs.
Note: I made 3 build progressions - starter, midgame, full build since the build stages are specific. lmk!
Thing is, the only time CDR is valuable is when you're casting immediately upon cooldown, in that gap where having 40% and 50% is the difference between you casting and just wanting to cast but not being able to. The difference between 40 and 50% isn't so much that it's going to define her playstyle significantly, and I still argue that having it in your build will often make you not have another item that will provide potentially greater effect.
It's not that I don't think it can be worthwhile, but for the most part, I'd generally prefer to have another item than Baubles.
I'm not against trying it now, but I do know I wouldn't build it regularly.
When I'm playing with a full party, any nox role works. I think the community generally (until high diamond) doesnt know how to play with a nox. can land the combo's all i want but if the team doesnt follow though it feels pretty useless.
So, concept here is that Nox is pretty safe, because she can extract into teammates' shadows. She can zone, she can lock an enemy down (and burn beads), and her ult if used in the middle of a teamfight (rather than at the end to snipe a low-health enemy) can be pretty useful to give your team an advantage.
With all that in mind, obviously you want high CDR, but since she's only effective around teammates, I really like getting as many team utility items as possible. Protection auras, Shogun's, Spectral, etc. are all really nice. If enemy squishies aren't building any prots and there aren't too many protection auras on their side, Binding is also good. Used to love getting Pythag's but it feels a bit nerfed into the ground right now.
I have a face-tank mitigation build in there as well, if you prefer blocking as many line abilities and basics as possible, but it's not my preferred way to be the Supp.
And yes, you're absolutely right, Nox is fully reliant on teammates to take advantage of her lockdown. But if you're grabbing those utility items, she'll still help in various ways no matter what. And rather than just focus on lockdown for kill secure, she's also one of the strongest peelers, if you need to do it that way.
