INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my guide for Chaac, God of Rain

My name is Big Damage. I am a dedicated Smite player and spend most of my time playing Ranked Conquest, Ranked Joust and some Assault. In Conquest I mostly enjoy playing Solo and Support, however this build is just for Chaac in Solo and Joust.

This is my 1st SmiteFire guide, and constructive criticism is always welcome. Before I start I would like to add credits to Branmuffin17, Zilby and Mowen for the templates and notes on how to implement bbcode, this guide would not be possible without it!

Without further ado, onto the guide!

PROS AND CONS

..... Strengths .....

+ Great early damage
+ High self sustain
+ Best standard voice lines
.. Weaknesses ..

- Win lane lose game
- Teleport can throw you
- Only good teamfight in ult

HOW TO PLAY + TIPS AND TRICKS

This part of the guide will provide you with information needed to play Chaac throughout the different stages of the game.

Early Game / Laning Phase

The reason people pick Chaac is because of his strength in lane, use the power and sustain that you have to secure the Totem of Ku, get a lead and snowball into the mid game where you can start doing some real damage.

If you can't get a lead here the rest of the game is going to be a real struggle as you haven't got much use for your team towards the end of the midgame.

Mid Game / "Skirmish" Fighting

With your lead try to proxy and/or make rotations into the mid lane to use your early to mid game power to get the rest of your team a lead with which you can push mid towers, take Gold Fury or invade the enemy jungle.

Late Game / Team fighting

Chaac falls off heavily late game in terms of damage and presence, only really having his ult and slow to pressure the enemy backline damage dealers. Use your tankiness and sustain to keep disrupting the enemy backline so they can't get damage off, even though your kit is not as strong.

Tips + Tricks
  • If you're being chased, throw your axe in one direction and watch your map. If they keep chasing you, teleport to make space, if they run to your axe keep running away.

  • Try to save the stacks on your passive for either your 3, Rain Dance or your ult, Storm Call as these 2 abilities have the highest mana cost and cooldown.

  • While in a teamfight, after using your 1, Thunder Strike, use your 3, Rain Dance to zone the area with a slow and also preventing you from accidentally teleporting to your axe with Torrent which can potentially throw your fight.

WHICH RELICS?

Core Relics

  • Blink is just a great catch all relic for any warriors looking to dive the enemy backline, and no less on Chaac. Because Chaacs only mobility is in his teleport, being able to close the gap with blink to use his abilities is invaluable.

  • Shell is good for survivability while diving and can allow him to help any nearby allies that might need a shield too. The block stacks are just great against hunters and certain junglers.
Situational Relics

teleport glyph
  • Beads are always great into high crowd control teams so that you can survive diving the enemy team. Never be afraid to get this just because you're a tank.

  • Being a tank with an upgraded sunder can make you more useful than normal on Chaac as a well placed hit with this can allow your jungler to secure a kill with ease on a target.

  • Teleport is always an option for keeping pressure up in lane or for keeping your lane safe if you're losing, always optional if you're not as confident in your skill.

WHAT TO BUY, WHY AND WHEN

In this section I will go over strong core items for Chaac, why they are useful and when to purchase them

Item 1
Shifter's Shield

Shifter's Shield is a great bruiser item on most physical gods right now and especially so on Chaac. Chaac has great scaling on all of his abilities so he appreciates the 70 power on the high hp end of the passive and as a close combat warrior the prots available are useful too.

Item 2
caduceus shield
Caduceus Shield

Similar to Shifter's Shield, Chaac loves bruiser items. Not only are the bruiser base stats great but the passive increasing all healing in an aura by 20% makes Chaacs Rain Dance feel much better whether it's in or out of combat.

Item 3
shield of regrowth
Shield of Regrowth

This is an interesting item, but the movement speed utility provided to Chaac when he uses his Rain Dance is greatly appreciated. There isn't always room to build this but when you can the potential to run enemies down catching them in your slow is great, and gives you more mobility to escape too.

ABILITIES AND COMBOS

Passive - Overflow

A simple passive to give Chaac a slight boost in lane. Hitting 5 auto attacks will give you a use of this passive on one of your abilities, reducing its cooldown by 2 seconds and it will also cost no mana. It doesn't matter if you use it on any ability but aim to use it on Rain Dance or Storm Call as they cost the most mana and have the longest cooldowns. However you can also repeatedly use the passive on Thunder Strike as it has the lowest cooldown and highest damage, so you can spam a lot.

1 - Thunder Strike

Thunder Strike is the bread and butter on Chaac, you want to be maxing this ability first, 320 damage at level 10 that you can throw at a distance, on a 10 second maximum cooldown? This is one half of what makes Chaac such a lane bully, another point to make is the interactions, being able to teleport to the axe location with Torrent or a huge AOE slow with Rain Dance can make Chaac very tedious to play against.

2 - Torrent

Torrent doesn't seem like anything too special, however when you look into the stats you may realise how this works with one of his best combos which I will cover just below. The damage is nice, but gaining protections for every enemy hit? you can throw your axe in to a group with Thunder Strike, teleport to it with Torrent to get those protections and hit your ultimate, Storm Call before they can even say "Enemy missing left!".

3 - Rain Dance

Rain Dance is the other half to what makes Chaac a lane bully. You just hit me for 200 HP? Oh let me just heal it all back up again. With this you can save yourself and keep poking down gods with less sustain. Use the slow to ensnare enemies for the kill when needed and let's not also forget the enormous AOE slow that it puts down when utilised with Thunder Strike which opens up Chaac to another strong combo.

4 / Ultimate - Storm Call

Probably the most teamfight useful part of Chaacs kit, being able to knock up and silence all enemies while dealing a LOT of damage is great. Chaac can also use this as his 'panic button' as it provides damage mitigations up to 70% at level 20, this means if you were hit by a Scylla ult for 1000 damage you would only take 300!

Combos

This is your standard boxing combo. Throw the axe down at them to deal damage, hit the rain to affect the larger area while slowing them and finish with the axe spin to put out some more damage without teleporting away from the enemy.

Use this combo to close the gap and ult. Throw your axe down at the enemies and teleport to it with the axe spin and use your ult on the target{s}. Use your Rain Dance here to lock a target down in your slow and sustain you while fighting.

With Blink Rune, your combo can become much more effective. Blink in on the enemies and immediately ult them, throw down your axe and hit the Rain Dance to slow enemies in the area which allows you to use your axe spin without teleporting in the fight.

SUMMARY // CONCLUSION

Chaac is an aggressive early game power house that utilises his early game strength to snowball his way into the late game, I hope this build was useful, thank you for reading!

Hey I’m new when do I use elixir of speed.
1
Branmuffin17 (400) | April 23, 2021 3:57pm
Hi Ivan,

Elixir of Speed is a late-game replacement for movement speed. You'll want to have purchased all 6 main items. After that, you build up enough gold to purchase the Elixir, sell the boots/shoes, and get a replacement item.

So if we take Biggie's main build, noting that he purchases the Bluestone Pendant starter and then sells it late-game instead of upgrading it, your sequence of purchase would be as follows:
  1. Bluestone Pendant
  2. Warrior Tabi
  3. Gladiator's Shield
  4. Shifter's Shield
  5. Caduceus Shield
  6. Ancile
  7. Sell Bluestone, purchase Mantle of Discord (This is where you have all 6 main slots filled)
  8. Purchase Elixir of Speed, sell Warrior Tabi and replace with Heartseeker
You never purchase Elixir of speed early because for the gold cost, all it's doing is replace the movement speed portion of your boots/shoes without providing any other stats. Make sense?

Build is slightly outdated because this is for when you would swap bluestone however now brooch is good.

1. Bluestone Pendant ( Bluestone Brooch at level 20)
2. Warrior Tabi
3. Shifter's Shield
4. Ancile
5. Void Shield
6. Mantle of Discord / Pridwen
7. Purchase Elixir of Speed, sell Warrior Tabi and purchase caduceus shield.

Axe starter isn't good in joust?
1
Big Damage (37) | March 22, 2021 11:20pm
It could be but you don't really need the sustain and you don't often get to level 20 for the use of its upgrade, Sundering Axe. I prefer Warding Sigil because of the flat damage reduction you get from its passive.

Why no Transcendence? Isn't it very strong on him?
1
Big Damage (37) | February 2, 2020 2:02pm
I used to have it as a core item however with the changes to Magical Penetration I decided having more health was more beneficial. It is still an Alternative/Situational though.

Devampi (105) | February 3, 2020 1:26am
Honestly I have to say I myself find Transcendence meh. Chaac is one of the kings of the early game. Late game he falls of and transitions into (the initiating) tank. trans would make him a lot more squishier while his damage would not be that much higher because protections.
Honestly if you want to be a bit more snowbally or use that early game damage I would recommend Jotunn's Wrath (because of the little bit of pen being more valuable than the bit of power from trans) or more around late game if you also want to keep a bit of tankyness Void Shield (which aura late game is now better if the enemy is a tank)

talking about Void Shield I wonder why a late game Shifter's Shield is in your opinion a better pick up than Void Shield (assuming in joust you have a double physical comp)

I find more success in Joust to rush to a T2 item, (with the exception of Specialist's Blessing on a healer such as Aphrodite or Hel), the reduction to all damage is nice but I just feel held back and slowed down from building my items because starter items work better in a laning phase in Conquest where you have more use relative to it's cost for it to be beneficial, whereas in Joust feels more like an arms race to who can get ahead first, so I'd prefer to work towards an item I'm going to keep in the late game than spend 700 gold and be 1/3 of an item behind an enemy that has rushed a T2 to then sell it again in the late.

I thought Joust is about early leads and pressure though?
