~Author's Regards~

I submit this Guide for the Season 4 Contest! I wish everyone the best of luck and I am glad to have made this guide regardless of whether or not I win.

Hello! First off I just wanna thank you for taking the time to read this guide. Now this may not be the most professional guide around and I may not be the best Smite Player in the world, but if you wanna know how I build MY Ullr then go on ahead and continue to read this guide. Now I will warn that the builds contained are NOT, and I repeat NOT always effective. Sometimes it works out very well and sometimes I lose. Whenever I play Ullr I usually do fairly well as him so hopefully this'll work out for most people. This will contain a full explanation of his abilities, ways to combo, and understanding how he works as a god to maximize him completely.

Regardless, enjoy my guide!

Did you know that I have created other guides? No?! Check them out!
Note: These are all S3 and as such need to be updated. For the most part they still work. The Chaac one also needs a build update as well. Transcendence is NOT an item to build on him. :P
Wanna learn how to play Chaac? Well look no further! Here is his Solo Guide! Click Here!
Wanna learn how to play Sun Wukong?? Well look no further! Here is his Solo Guide! Click Here!

Changes:
Changed the builds.
Added a Situational items.
Fixed Images and Icons.

Added a Color scheme for easier reading.
Green is for anything related to his axes.
Blue is for anything related to his bow.
Red is for important information.

Ullr and his 6 Abilities.

You heard right. Ullr has 6 abilities. You will always have access to three unique abilities depending on which stance you are in.

Let's explain his stances. Ullr, like Tyr and Hel, has two stances he can be in. Each stance gives him unique abilities and increases specific stats. His switch stance ability is his fourth ability, called Wield Axes/ Wield Bow, and I like to categorize each stance through his abilities. At the beginning of the game you can switch in-between stances as freely as you choose and it costs NO mana.

Wield Bow

His 'damage' stance, which is his bow/Wield Bow, passively increases his Physical attack speed by 5% per upgrade up to a total of 25% attack speed increases. So while using the bow he attacks faster. His abilities in this stance are great for taking out waves and killing targets from far away.

Wield Axes

His 'movement' stance, which is his axes/Wield Axes. passively increases his Physical Lifesteal by 5% per upgrade up to a total of 25% Physical Lifesteal. His abilities in this stance are great at immobilizing enemies and helping him close the distance.

Moving on to his Passive!

Weapon Master

This is a pretty simple one to understand. It reduces the cool-down of the abilities in your other stance by 1 second for each ability used in your current stance. Ullr has EXTREMELY long cool-downs on his abilities (each one taking around 10 seconds or more if I remember correctly.)

Ability 1 (Bow Stance)

Bladed Arrow

If you activate this ability while in Ullr's First stance, Wield Bow, Ullr will fire an arrow that travels in a straight line through all targets. This is similar to Neith's ability Spirit Arrow or Rama's Astral Strike

Ability One (Axe Stance)

Thrown Axe

If you activate this ability while in Ullr's second stance, or Wield Axes, Ullr will throw an axe in the direction he is facing. Whoever the axe hits first is stunned for 1 second up to 1.4 seconds. This is useful for hitting an enemy trying to run away, or to stun someone out of an ability. For example, you can use Thrown Axe to stun Bacchus out of Stun ability Belch of the Gods.

Ability 2 (Bow Stance)

Expose Weakness

If activated Ullr will have an increase of Physical power, up to 50, for 5 seconds. This applies to all his abilities and his basic attacks.

Ability 2 (Axe Stance)

Invigorate

If Ullr activates this ability he will have an increase of movement speed, up to 40%, for 5 seconds. If you switch stances I believe the bonus movement speed remains.

Ability 3 (Bow Stance)

Hail of Arrows

When activated Ullr will fire a group of arrows at a target location. This AoE damages all enemies within it and can be used as a snipe.

Ability 3 (Axe Stance)

Glory Bound

In his second stance Ullr jumps to a target location and deals damage. He can leap over some walls and this is a useful get away.

Ways to Combo with Ullr.

Now let's explain how to combo with these to make you as effective as possible in the field.

1.
When returning to lane it is a smart idea to activate Invigorate as you leave spawn. Once Invigorate has run out you can use Glory Bound to jump forward to increase the distance traveled.
2.
When in lane it is a smart idea to use Expose Weakness and Bladed Arrow to clear out minion waves. The increased damage buff will make you deal more damage to them.
3.
If you want to catch a running god it is a good idea to use Ullr's Invigorate to catch up to them. Use Glory Bound if you need to close distance. Once you are close enough use Thrown Axe to stun them and catch up.
4.
If you want to snipe an enemy god low on health it's smart to use Expose Weakness and then Hail of Arrows to snipe an unsuspecting enemy. Watch out though as they can sometimes see this coming.
5.
This one is more advanced and nearly uses all of his abilities. One way to engage in combat is to use Glory Bound to leap into combat. Once you have done that use Thrown Axe to stun the enemy god and then use Switch Stance to go to Wield Bow. Once this is done activate Expose Weakness and then Bladed Arrow to hit the target. If you have the time use Hail of Arrows immediately afterwords.

Items Explained

SOLO BUILD

So let's explain the item selection. I know these look weird for a hunter class character, and they are, but they work surprisingly well. A lot of people are gonna gripe and say, "Omg you build a defensive item on Ullr? Trash." or , "Oh you build a Lifesteal item? What a waste of an item!"

Let me stop you right there. First and foremost it is a good idea to build Asi on Ullr. As a Solo player in general I often times find I am running low on health. For some solo laners having a heal is what makes them work so well in that lane. So when it comes down to it Asi is essential because it provides lifesteal. It's not a heal like Chaac's Rain Dance but it will help lessen the burden. If you want to gain extra health you can switch to your axes and then run to the nearby buff or jungle XP camp. Asi is just good in general as it provides a variety of bonuses which ALL benefit the build and work together. Warrior Tabi in general is just a nice item to have if you want early game movement speed and damage.

The reason why I build Jotunn's Wrath and Breastplate of Valor is because they give Cooldown Reduction. They both also give mana, which helps relieve some of the mana pressure in the solo lane that Ullr tends to have. He does have six abilities after-all. Jotunn's Wrath will provide you with Power and penetration whereas Breastplate of Valor will give you physical protections.

An item like Bulwark of Hope makes sure you'll have protections from Mages such as Ra or Chang'e when fighting in the match. It will also give you bonus HP and even some Crowd Control Reduction which is all very useful on Ullr.

ADC BUILD

Now for those of you who like to main Hunters this may seem like the more usual build. Even then this is still an awkward build with the fact it involves items such as Asi or even Breastplate of Valor should you choose to go down that path. I would like to mention, as said earlier, that many items in this build combine very well together. (I will also explain how the situational items work.)

As you already know from the solo build Asi and Jotunn's Wrath goes together since they offer physical penetration. You'll have high Pen which will devastate guardians and even Warriors. Should you choose to add Titan's Bane or Brawler's Beat Stick as your last item you'll have an overflow of Physical Penetration which'll just tear down protections. Asi provides lifesteal and attack speed whereas Jotunn's Wrath provides physical power and Mana. Jotunn's Wrath also provides mana and CDR, also known as CoolDown Reduction.

In this build Qin's Sais and Asi also go very well together. They both provide a decent amount of attack speed, which builds onto the natural attack speed Ullr gains. Qin's Sais, or as I call them, Win Sais, is a very good item because it takes away 4 percent of a god's HP upon each hit. This is a hard-hitting item that can be very useful to him.

Situational Items

Items like Brawler's Beat Stick or Titan's Bane are useful since they both provide Physical Power and Penetration. Breastplate of Valor is a good item as well since it provides protections and Cooldown Reduction. However this is optional.

Speciality/Highlighted Items

Transcendence is a stack item that increases your overall mana per stack. This item ALSO increases your physical power for 3% of your mana. So if you have 1800 Mana you will have around 50-60 extra power. That's a large amount! This item combos well with things such as Jotunn's Wrath and Breastplate of Valor. The reason why I would build Jotunn's Wrath and Breastplate of Valor is because they give max Cooldown Reduction. Qin's Sais as an item is very nice on hunters as it provides a healthy dosage of power, a decent bit of attack speed, and it's passive works well against High Health enemies. This could combo well with the build and with Ullr as he has passive Attack speed. It also takes away 4% of an enemies's Max HP in extra damage. That may not seem like much at first but it quickly builds up within 5-10 shots. Asi, as an item, is very nice for people looking for an easy and cheap way to get Lifesteal. It provides 15% lifesteal, which is a nice amount when stacked onto his 25% passive lifesteal, and it also provides 15 penetration and 20% attack speed. It stacks with his bow passive, axe passive, and provides penetration. It also provides 25% bonus Lifesteal when you drop below 35% HP. For anyone with 2 thousand HP that would be roughly around 700 HP.

The Pros and Cons Of Both Builds

The Pros Of Solo

    Max CDR.
    High Physical Penetration.
    Decent Lifesteal.
    Decent Mana.
    High Ability Damage.

The Cons of Solo

Not a lot of Attack Speed.
    Low Magical Protections.
    Low Physical Protections.
Relies very heavily on playing smart.

The Pros Of ADC

    Large amounts of Physical Penetration.
    High Power.
    High amounts of Mana.
    Decent Lifesteal.
    Cool Down Reduction.

The Cons of ADC

    No Protections (unless situational.)
More ability based and less auto based.
    Half-Decent Attack Speed.
    Not full CDR (unless situational.)

Summary

So in Conclusion Ullr is a very difficult god to learn. He's got so many abilities and such that it takes a bit to understand him. However once you learn how to play him you'll become a strong god in games. Ullr is a great god once you've learned how to play him and can do well.

I haven't played Ullr enough this season to know how well the ADC build works, but I'm almost certain that my Solo still does. I just need to play a bit more.

Anyways, thank you for reading this Guide! If you enjoyed this please make sure to check out my other builds and Guides. Please comment what you think because ALL criticism is good criticism as long as you aren't being rude.

Hey Eley,

Link those icons to the database...
Code:
[icon=Bladed Arrow size=50]

FYI, I like the green/blue colors...makes it more intuitive reading for the stance.

I don't know about Ullr in solo, but although weird for an ADC, he's not fully an ADC, as he's very slightly like an assassin or basic attacking warrior, and building a bit more like a standard physical soloer seems like it makes sense. That said, a couple of issues:

1. You're overcapping CDR. BoV (20%) + Jotunn's (20%) + Hydra's (10%)...I get the reasoning for Hydra's, but...maybe figure out an alternative. Here's one:

Bluestone Pendant
Warrior Tabi
Gladiator's Shield (10% total CDR, bridge, replace late)
Jotunn's Wrath (30% total CDR)
Hydra's Lament (40% total CDR, maxed)
Asi (which I might say might be better built a bit earlier for sustain?)
Sell Bluestone, get Titan's Bane
Sell Gladiator's, get Spirit Robe or some specific counter protection item?

You also don't give an alternate for if you're facing a magical god...something that should be added... Genji's Guard, Ancile, and Pestilence might all be considered. Maybe even Shogun's Kusari if no one else plans on getting it and you've got multiple basic attackers besides yourself on the team.

Have you confirmed that Heartseeker is 1) purchasable by Ullr, and 2) functions on all of his abilities? Since default is only for melee, not sure how this works. Maybe you know more?

Some things you might consider adding to your guide sometime would include a synergies/matchups section (functional for both solo and ADC roles, but that would be a ton of work), basic gameplay section (how you should play early/mid/late game), advanced gameplay strategies and where you want to be in any given fight, etc.

I'm looking through my guide and I noticed a few spelling mistakes and that my abilities section icons were not able to pull up the thing. I forgot I used an image for that so I'll fix it now. I also completely forgot a situational section which looks bad for me. I'll fix that too in my next patch.

Alright so first off I want to thank you for taking the time to respond to my guide. I sincerely appreciate it. I will say that your build does sound a bit more solid then mine does. I ironically always overcap CDR and sometimes it is hard not to. However, Gladiator's Shield looks like a solid beginning item and I would probably build Asi, and then Jotunn's Wrath and then possibly Gladiator's Shield. SOmething like that. Also thank you for pointing out I didn't put an alternate for magical gods. I totally forgot about that. I'll make sure to add something like Pestilence to the build because that also works well against healer Warriors like Tyr and Chaac. I'll also make sure to add the matchups section, which I would assume is where you explain how well Ullr matches up with other gods, and then a gameplay section. This is my best guide and I'm still learning how to write so any advice you can give me helps. Also I'll make sure to confirm Heartseeker today. I'm pretty sure it works with Ullr, but possibly not.

I would get rid of hydras for an item like brawlersbecause you over capping cooldowns

The Eley Crew (1) | February 15, 2017 1:31pm
That is a good idea. I'll most certainly give that a shot.

Fluxerus (1) | December 28, 2016 3:41am
Why are you building Tran last? It's usefulness is greatly eclipsed late game versus early, if anything build either 1st or 2nd. Also, the same question asked before, Asi and Bloodforge? Might I suggest Soul Eater instead? The attack speed, life steal, and movement are all very useful to a lone wolf like Ullr. Then there is the lack of crit in this build. Ullr is a very versitile hunter, but if you don't build decent damage then he fails his role as a carry. The Breastplate of Valor is actually the least strange thing about this build.

The Eley Crew (1) | December 31, 2016 11:29am
If I am being completely honest this isn't how I build Ullr to the exact item order. I have a much better item order but because of the fact that I can't remember it off the top of my head I just put all the items in as I remember them. My build is much more organized than this and that if my mistake. I do need to remake this guide to fix some minor errors so I will most certainly fix that. Also, I usually only build Bloodforge as a final item. I always build it IF I don't know what to build next. I am not an expert at this game so in my mind Bloodforge is usually a fallback item if I don't know what to build next. So I will most certainly test out Soul Eater and get back to you on that.

MasterGamer123 | December 26, 2016 1:25pm
Tip: change Breastplate to Spirit Robe because it gives both 40 magical+physical protections,10% cdr, and 20% crowd control reduction,Also it's passive gives you 15% damage mitigation when hit by hard cc.

Fluxerus (1) | December 28, 2016 3:34am
The 10% makes a lot of difference actually, so does the mana if you are not building Transcendence.

Hey, that's not a bad build overall; I get the idea behind maxing out cooldowns with Breastplate of Valor (Assassin Ullr)- but there's one thing I'm not so sure about, and that's Bloodforge.

While it gives a decent amount of power, its other stats are quite lacking; as you already propose to buy Asi; and because of that Bloodforge's additional lifesteal is irrelevant. It also blocks the item slot and doesn't allow to have percentage penetration ( Titan's Bane most likely with such build theme), as the 25 flat points from Asi and Jotunn's Wrath will fall off the later the game goes.

I'd dare to say that around 5th item slot Titan's Bane would already provide more actual damage thanks to its penetration effect (while also being considerably cheaper), and that would be even more true after the purchase of Qin's Sais or Transcendence.

Also one suggestion; I see that you already have spend quite a bit of time providing links to the abilities- but there's a much easier and probably even more clear way to do so- including the ability/god/item name in double brackets:

For example:
Code:
[[Hail of Arrows]] [[Ullr]] [[Transcendence]]

which looks like that:
Hail of Arrows Ullr Transcendence

So it's more clear in a sense that one doesn't have to click the link; hovering over it does the trick.

So I gave Titan's Bane a try. It was really good and it helped me out quite a bit.

Thank you for the criticism on my post. I appreciate it! I am still new to the website and as such learning any new tricks or techniques will help me. This is my fourth 'build guide' but the only one I've actually worked professionally on, excluding my Ymir guide. As such learning this neat trick is really helpful!
Now referring to the build I can understand why you would question Bloodforge, as I often question it myself, and I like the idea of adding Titan's Bane in it's Stead. Truth be told the only reason I ever use Bloodforge is the passive and damage boost since I can't think of anything else that would benefit me. I am not an expert at the game, being as I've never reached level 30 with ANY account. My Xbox is probably the highest being at level 26 or 27 to my knowledge. Even though I've put a lot of time into the game I'm still learning the items. As such I appreciate any ideas on how to make my characters better or how to improve my gameplay.

Overall thank you for commenting on my post and helping me to become a better SmiteFire user and a better gamer. I will most certainly put Titan Bane into my next game and see how it works.

No problem man! I'm trying to make more professional guides for new players or to give experienced players insight. I mean some people who play the game professionally, that I know, have never played Ullr before and so my objective was to give people a good idea of how he works.
