Gameplay

Ah Puch can be useful when played right. You really need to make sure you are positioned correctly at all times. Not only do you need to position yourself correctly to not be caught out, but you need to position yourself correctly so you can aim your corpses properly. You bring a lot of utility to team fights due to your built in anti-heal via Fleeting Breath. Almost every game you play will consists of at least 1 person with some sort of healing, so focus them with your Fleeting Breath. My advice to you is to play safe for the beginning of the game. Focus on clearing whole waves with 1 combo so you can then have a open target for your next combo. Keep in mind Ah Puch does not have any escapes so you need to ward the jungle around you because you will be ganked. A LOT.
The only form of escape you can give yourself is the combination of Empty the Crypts and Gem of Isolation. With all this being said, remember one thing; You are the Horrific God of Decay. Don't let anyone ruin your fun, you ruin theirs by blowing up corpses at their feet and watch them blow up alongside them.

Summary

Ah Puch is by far my favorite Mage in Smite. He is super bursty while having built in anti-heal. There is nothing more satisfying than getting you combo off on the entire enemy teams and watching the HP bars deplete. Just make sure when you are fighting you position yourself correctly. When you are fully built you are gonna have a ton of fun on Ah Puch, I guarantee it. Thank you again for reading my guide and I hope it makes you give Puch a shot. Ooh so this was recently updated. I'm looking because I need to play a Mayan god as a quest, and your guides haven't let me down yet! Thanks for updating this guide! Hopefully I'll be yeeting corpses and blowing up enemies lol

Your "tank with damage" build has no pen. I also see you list typhon's fang as alternate damage yet bancrofts is nowhere to be seen. You only build typhons if you get bancrofts. Neither of them are good options on Ah Puch anyway.

Secondly, Book of the Dead is a terrible item at the moment so I would not recommend it at all. I would remove it from "alternate damage".

Also the fact that Gem of Isolation isn't listed as a core item in either build is gravely disturbing.

I main ap, pen boots, iso gem, tahuti, magus spear, soul reaver, obs shard. Start mana chalice t2 boots . But if you want slasher ganker ap. Cdr boots, shamans ring, rod of healing, winged blade and whatever else u want. Also your 1st point should go to your poison ability not corpse throw

Hi Rezneth,

Adding some comments for your current version of the guide (updated March 4 2018).
  • For your damage w/ Tank build, you got 3 items that are meant to improve your survivability... Warlock's Staff, Ethereal Staff, and Mantle of Discord. These are all solid choices for him, since he is a particularly immobile god.

That said, in your example build, I feel that it could be significantly improved. Specifically 2 things.

    1) You don't have any pen in the entire build. Subbing Shoes of the Magi in place of Shoes of Focus would be a partial solution, but any damaging god really wants more than that. If you don't commit to doing damage to tanks in particular, then Obsidian Shard may be out, but I think in its place, Spear of Desolation is a functional pen item. Divine Ruin is also an alternative, but is a very specific counter to healing, so I can understand not including it in an example build. Spear, though...Spear's probably a good idea. Even Spear of the Magus could be considered, if you open up damage with Fleeting Breath...build those stacks a bit, then burst with your 1-2 combo. I know you list these in your alternate damage, but feel a stronger commitment to an example build that includes pen is important.

    2) Since you're not committing to a full damage build, I feel that Rod of Tahuti is not particularly needed. This is where you can consider fitting in more pen, or getting some additional utility, e.g. Gem of Isolation.

  • In your full damage build, I can understand the use of Book of Thoth, but still feel like even in a damage-committed build, Warlock's Staff is still viable, since he's basically a sitting duck. In this example build, I again think that getting some early pen is helpful.

Actually wait, scratch the above...I'm actually going to suggest a rework to the presentation of your builds.

Instead of having 2 build tabs, there's not really enough variation that you NEED 2 tabs, or to commit to a damage w/ Tank build and a full damage build...honestly there's not enough variation there between the two, and you can offer options to choose based on preference.

So, here's how I would do it...and you can keep it the way you have it if you want, it's your guide...but again, how I would do it:
  • 1 tab only. At the top, show an example build (can be full damage items or throw a protection item like Mantle in there if you prefer that build).

  • Then break down the various options. You obviously prefer stacking, so create a category of "Stacking Item (Choose One)" and list both Warlock's and Thoth.

  • Next would be movement..."Shoes (Choose One)" (or call it "movement") and list both Magi and Focus.

  • "Damage Item Options" and provide the various options you have.

  • "Defense (If Needed)" and list those items.

  • "Relics" and list those items.

  • And if you'd like you can have examples of starting builds near the top or at the bottom as preferred.
Does that make sense? Thoughts?

Might I make a few quick suggestions to try?

1. With new update I have found that rod of Tahiti isn't as good instead try ethereal staff.

2. For your abilities try swapping 5 and 6. Get your 1 to lol 3 before ult (allows for higher dmg output earlier in game) woupd love to see your thoughts while trying this.

Good suggestions, I'll try them out and update the guide :D

Have you ever tried double stacking sash and book of Thoth on Ah Puch just wondering. Most dont like stacking both but in arena I double stack on kukulkan sash and book of Thoth in arena on kukulkan seems to help a lot with me. Which makes him not so squishy when i add gem of isolation and ethereal staff the blue boots spear of magus

Double-stacking is generally not preferred for specific reasons.

Besides that, you're talking Arena, which is a quick game mode. With that in mind, and unless you're the only stacker, you're looking at possibly screwing others out of stacking, losing stacks because others are also clearing, or possibly just being very inefficient with your power curve.

I'm generally cool with Rezneth's build. Only thing I'd change is, well, he gets so much slow out of his Undead Surge you really don't need Iso...sure, it can be functional with the ult, but still shouldn't really need it.

Bran are you kidding me ? Gem of Isolation on Ah Puch is like a most, when pros used to play him, they all got this ! Fleeting Breath will give a 5 seconds long slow ! It's insane !

Why do you build Warlock's Sash instead of Book of Thoth? I prefer the book because of the 3 skills combo, that makes Ah Puch very mana hungry early/mid game.
Don't you think Gem of Isolation is a core object for Ah Puch for maximize his slow? I like it for the ult too, because very often happened I was able to run away slowing my enemies using it

(Sorry for my poor english)

If I remember correctly, Shard is only good for when someone on the other team is stacking Magic Armor. Like, a significant amount of it. But for the Sash vs Thoth, I just prefer Sash. I like the HP boost it gives, and it gives you some mana off the bat too. Mana is only an issue early game for Puch, once you get a couple of items mana shouldn't really ever be an issue. I guess that item is just whatever you prefer more. If you can't seem to maintain your mana, then go with Thoth. But I don't go in too much early game on Puch, I just focus Minion waves down until I am far enough into my build to guarantee kills.
1
BigBullyMarine | December 20, 2017 5:10pm
Obsidian Shard is best used against those stacking mana however if you utilize it in the kit it just makes you do that much more damage to the enemy due to the 33% pen passive (thats just my opinion when I run Ah Puch (granted I dont use that Item very often unless i really just want to Harass the **** out of the enemy LOL

@Rezneth.

Haters going to hate bro, I wound up with ah ouch in an assault and it was your guide that had me 13-0. Good build awesome build . I'mmaking ah psuch my main cause of it. I do mess around with the items and stuff but thank you for the greatness.

Thanks! Let him do his own thing, this guide is only a suggestion for people.

Hey, why did you choose Warlock's Sash as your first item over Book of Thoth? I found out on a test run that he's really reliant on mana like you said so I thought Book of Thoth would be a better starting item.

Also, the 3% mana to magical power that Book of Thoth brings means more oomph to my exploding corpses, right?

I go with Sash because of the health boost. It helps me stay in fights much longer and stays pretty relevant throughout the whole game. For me mama is only an issue early game, but if you pick up potions and get mana camp you'll be fine.
