Boots are an excellent starter item for
Nemesis, giving her some early mobility. Once upgraded to
Warrior Tabi they also provide better power than
Ninja Tabi. Since there is a lot of attack speed in this build, the attack speed from
Ninja Tabi is mostly unnecessary, so I would recommend purchasing
Warrior Tabi instead.
Bumba's Mask is my go to starter item for most assassins. It's incredibly helpful to
Nemesis due to her poor early game ability to take out jungle camps, but if you're confident in your early game you can start building your other items immediately.
ALTERNATIVE
Death's Toll is a decent alternative to
Bumba's Mask. I personally like the early game stat boosts it provides that help me have an edge on enemy players, but it does limit your ability to take out jungle camps effectively.
Hand of the Gods is always my starter active with
Nemesis because it provides an easy way to take out jungle camps, something that
Nemesis is poor during her early game. Mid/late game
Fist of the Gods allows you to get an extra stun on enemies as well, making this an all around good investment.
ALTERNATIVE
Achilles' Spear is a great item because it allows you to close the gap on enemies and gain additional attack speed and lifesteal. Be wary when using this however, because the increased damage taken for 5s can be dangerous. It can be helpful to counter this with
Retribution while ganking.
sprint
I often buy sprint the first time I return to base as Nemesis. It improves her movement even more and allows her to fly through the map, taking out all the jungle camps and still have time to gank lanes. It's also helpful for closing the gap on enemies and escaping while
Swift Vengeance is on cooldown. If you buy
Hastened Fatalis, you will not need this item as much.
ALTERNATIVE
Purification Beads while not typically as useful as sprint, can be necessary in matches where you are continuously exposed to hard CC, such as Ares, Hades, Anubis, Chang'e, etc. If possible, I will always advise something else as a better alternative, but if you're making the best of a bad situation,
Purification Beads is not a bad choice.
Note: Magi's Blessing can often be bought to replace this item with its passive.
ALTERNATIVE
Greater Aegis is essential against gods with great amounts of burst damage from their ultimates over a short time like
Anubis,
Poseidon Hercules, etc.
Jotunn's Wrath allows the user to perform more
Slice and Dice's as well as
Divine Judgements greatly increasing both
Nemesis' kill frequency and kill potential. It also provides decent penetration and power, as well as some mana which can be useful for sustain in the jungle.
ALTERNATIVE
Hastened Fatalis provide great attack speed and movement speed, as well as a passive that will allow you to begin focusing enemies as early as possible. However,
Nemesis does have two slows and can often stick to people using items such as sprint. Regardless, this item does make a good replacement for magi's blessing (just push up the build order 1 position until you get to 5th item) allowing you to invest in
Purification Beads rather than sprint.
ALTERNATIVE
Ichaival is by far
Nemesis best option when playing against a primarily physical team. It still provides additional attack speed, but also reduces enemies' physical power while increasing yours, allowing you to focus down Warriors, assassins and hunters with ease.
The Executioner (almost) maxes out
Nemesis's attack speed, gives additional power and reduces targets' physical protections for three stacks on basic attacks. With your high attack speed, this is easy to accomplish, and when used in conjunction with
Nemesis'
Divine Judgement, it will provide enough penetration to take out even the toughest enemies in seconds.
Rage will allow you to crit far more often and also provides a decent attack power buff. This makes it more or less essential for
Deathbringer to be effective.
Was there ever any doubt?
Deathbringer provides great power, critical strike chance and makes your critical hits do 50% more damage. However, this item is expensive, so I would advise getting
Rage or
Malice first.
Magi's Blessing
Magi's Blessing is irreplaceable against teams with good CC. While beads can supplant this against some teams, if you are getting hit by too much hard CC to be able to dash in and out from attacking teams, you will need this item.
ALTERNATIVE
Asi is a great late game item, providing additional attack speed, and lifesteal so that you can stay out of base longer during the late game. While
Nemesis' ult provides you with penetration, it's important to still be powerful while it's on cooldown as well.
ALTERNATIVE
Malice can be a decent final item to a crit build adding even more crit chance which allows its passive to really become effective.
I do not build crits on Nemesis as I tend to use her as a tank killer; DPS is more important in that case than crits (except if no one is goind defensive in the opposite team...). So yes, if you build Qin's Sais you probably won't go crits.
Nemesis is really good at killing tanks or healers due to her abilities, and I think that the current meta is a good opportunity for her to shine.
Firstly just to note: this guide is reflective of me 3 months after having started playing smite. Nemesis was my first jungler, hence I used the beginner jungler stereotype on her of building full power without regrets. I believe my build at the time was the first one listed above except replacing Jotunn's Wrath with Hastened Fatalis and replacing magi's blessing with either Malice, Qin's Sais or Asi.
Would I recommend this build today? Only if you want to pubstomp newer players (I was going like 20-1-10 with this build back then since I was being paired with people way under my skill level XD).
I do still think the first build listed there is viable, but you need to be up against a team where Nemesis can really take advantage and hypercarry your team, which is not most cases. Hence as of late, I've been utilizing the "tankier build" with Ichaival and Frostbound Hammer the majority of the time (although I can't say I've played all that much Nemesis as of late).
However, more of a bruiser Nemesis is very, if not more viable than my more 'glass cannon' style builds in the current meta. Personally, my play-style with her is much more attuned to the 'glass cannon' archetype, so I take advantage of that in my matches since I'm more practiced with it, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to most players after all this time.
To address the points brought up: Qin's Sais would work great as a replacement to Rage / Deathbringer if you want to grab another tanky item for the Ichaival / Frostbound Hammer build as well (I would not grab Rage and Qin's Sais however, not quite as efficient). Some good options for that you already mentioned like Mail of Renewal, Spirit Robe or Soul Eater (I would also include Runeforged Hammer and Midgardian Mail, perhaps Witchblade if you're going Qin's Sais to help its passive).
I will say that magi's blessing regardless of the nerf is still a solid pick since it gives you a lot of security knowing you can go all in without being CC'd, especially with a more 'glass cannon' build, but I'd probably grab something heavier if I was building more as a bruiser.
As mentioned above, Frostbound Hammer is awesome on nem, especially paired with Ichaival. I would only grab Hastened Fatalis on a bruiser build if the enemy has a lot of slow immunity or if I want to grab that and then a different tank item from Frostbound Hammer (eg: they have 4 physical, I'd grab Hastened Fatalis and Runeforged Hammer).
I'll see if I can update the guide to include some options for more bruiser-style builds and also get rid of silly options like Asi as your last item and my first two out of date recommended actives.
As Nemesis is getting much more screen space recently (thanks to CycloneSpin mostly); maybe it could be interesting to update the build after last patches. Especially considering that Nemesis had her Retribution shield buffed (decreased cooldown by 2s).
I've seen in previous comments that Qin's Sais was not recommended, but I guess it has been updated in the meanwhile cause it "only" cost 2850 gold now. I'd put that instead of Deathbringer.
Also, Magi's blessing has been nerfed, so maybe not a good choice anymore.
It can certainly be replaced by Mail of Renewal or Spirit Robe.
Also, Weak3n (in this video) recommends Sould Eater, but makes sense if you don't have any healer. Frostbound Hammer and Hastened Fatalis can be real valid choices as well.
What's your opinion guys?
Also Achilles' Spear is great with the current meta since a lot of solo laner are not taking Hand of the Gods so that you're not arriving late in lane. Otherwise, it's a little gamble 'cause until you have your 2nd item (ASPD for me) Hand of the Gods is more effective for jungle clearing, which may make you fall early game. But after that, it's really power-you-up for everything! So it's gamble, but really worth it.
@FemFatalis And for The Executioner as 2nd pick, I was taking it to counter her poor early game for an "aggressive" start. But with the recent patch, I think I'll switch to much more Effective/Cost items as 2nd pick and delayed it to 3rd item.
As second item Ichaival is pretty awesome. It give everything you need for a AA god focus like Nemesis (ASPD, Power, Penetration) for a cheap cost. Plus, it's going well with her passive. Asi also is an excellent alternative, less power for more survivability. But with the nerf, it may be less viable ...
I wouldn't recommend Devourer's Gauntlet on her. Her early game is really poor and you need some ASPD to make Nemesis viable, which delay the pick. With her terrible wave clear and the nerf of the number of stack, it make this item viable only in late mid/late game. Maybe using Achilles' Spear more aggressively you can counter balance that, but it's too much a gamble for me.
@rilazari I'm not fond of Jotunn's Wrath on Nemesis as a AA god and since she pretty squishy, you can't really stay long in battle to enjoy its passive. The CDR became usefull for her ult and maybe for roaming, but with Achilles' Spear you have a bit of a solution with more versatility.
@Greenevers I never though of Frostbound Hammer on her, because you need ASPD to have a burst. But for heavy AA enemy (Currently, too much ADC in this meta), I should try it with The Executioner, it must be awesome O_O.
@rilazari I've try Hastened Fatalis as 2nd, it was nice if when I was ahead or already have, at least The Executioner, at best Bloodforge also). Otherwise, only ASPD was too much a gamble for me.
As I say, Bloodforge is an adaptive slot, excellent if you're even slightly ahead, to enjoy her mid game potential (Soloing the gold fury also). Otherwise some defence could be an excellent choice. As alternative, I was more thinking of Shifter's Shield who is going nicely with your battle style: Divine Judgement + ATK bonus for Slice and Dice and first AA combo. After, then you're low life (or against a burst like Berserker Barrage), some defence plus Retribution together with Asi passive and even Achilles' Spear if the enemy burst/CC is down. Spirit Robe + Midgardian Mail would be an excellent choice against a heavy CC team, I have to try it.
The reason you go Spirit Robe and Midgardian Mail / Mystical Mail is because of the cost-efficiency and effective health it brings to the table. Say you don't build a bit on the tanky side. Unless you're ahead or fed late game, you'll be blown up in fights after you blow your shield before you do any amount of damage. You won't need magi's blessing if you have % mitigation as well as effective health. It's an either or, try both I personally like the latter.
I only go Mystical Mail if I'm ahead due to its high cost and lackluster passive late game. Try out the build, but if you want to credit someone for this build in the future, make sure not to credit me, but Weak3n from AFK Gaming.
While I don't think that glass cannon/hyper carry Nemesis is dead (especially outside of pro games), bruiser Nemesis is definitely viable. I may consider adding that as a second build if I have time.
My current build for Nemesis (which is also the current weak3n build) is:
Ninja Tabi
Ichaival
Frostbound Hammer
midguardian mail / Mystical Mail
Spirit Robe
The Executioner
Crits work fine on Nemesis but with the build provided, I can guess that the early game is very lackluster and hard to get by. You need some early attack speed by either getting Ninja Tabi or Ichaival in place of Jotunn's Wrath. achilles spear instead of HoG might be a good idea, I'll try it out! But, Frostbound Hammer is very strong in this meta, and the slow effect will help your whole team instead of the fatalis proc only helping you.
I'd also suggest that you elaborate a bit more on using her shield. I often see many players use the shield ASAP when boxing when instead, they should be using it at the end of the fight or to wait to negate a vulcan ult or something of the sort. Good luck!
Back on topic, maybe a Hastened Fatalis second, then sell it to get Rage online and start building crit? There's no denying Hastened Fatalis's early game power, I just see it as useless compared to other attack speed items when you're critting mages and hunters for 800.
Does that mean it's worth it if you get Achilles' Spear or Greater Sprint to compensate for these problems? Probably not, but it's an option if you want your actives to be Hand of the Gods and Greater Purification.
Also I'm still yet to test Achilles' Spear on nem. I've had the opportunity, I've just been wasting my time doing the oh so great Bacchus Jungle instead.
Bloodforge might actually be viable on this character; first time I've said that. My build would probably be Ninja Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, The Executioner, Rage, Deathbringer, Malice, but I just like the reduced cooldowns on Slice and Dice and Divine Judgement in the mid game. The Executioner could easily be built second and followed up with Bloodforge or Devourer's Gauntlet if stacking is possible on Nemesis. Theorycrafting incoming; I expect to play lots of Nemesis now.
@rilazari, I personally think Achilles' Spear is better with Jotunn's Wrath, since it won't overcap your attack speed. Also, Hastened Fatalis is entirely unnecessary on Nemesis, she has a slow as part of her kit as well as a slowing ultimate that increases her movement speed. Hastened Fatalis would be useless compared to Bloodforge, Ichaival, or Odysseus' Bow.
@Zilby HOLY **** just reread your post and Retribution Achilles' Spear combo is inSANE. I'm totally motivated now. And the lifesteal will get her through the early game which is tough for her...ok I'm just going to stop talking now and go play Nemesis. PM me in game or on site if you want to work together on this for your guide because Nemesis DESTROYS the guardians in the meta right now and she could easily become top tier with this build or something like it.
