I feel like there aren't many guides that really show how to properly build and play a TANK/SUPPORT for beginners, only jungle or bruiser type builds -.-
So In this guide I will show any inexperienced players be the best lane partner Tank/Support they can be with almost any kind of tank god in conquest! Now continue downwards!
Note:First get starter item and actives then first tier boots are next once you have enough gold
Plated Greaves
This is a good item to build at the start since it gives quiet a huge amount of defence early game. A sure item for most tanks
Reinforced Greaves
Not as defensive as plated but with the CC reduction it gives it's quiet valuable as well as the extra speed boost for chases when you want to stun someone for a sure kill for your teammates as well as a good way for escaping a chase since mostly others would get the normal tabi/shoes or plated since they don't give that extra speed while out of combat.
boots of clerity
Now this is for tanks that has no maneuverability. Like Vulcan, Ymir and Ares. No dash or jumps to help them with chases (But Ymir does have a wall for that so I don't recommend it for him so ether Reinforced Greaves or Plated Greaves ) Use it to chase and CC your target for your teammates.
Breastplate of Valor
A recommended item I say. Get's your CC up in no time. Because as a Tank/Support you need your CC almost everytime. Just don't spam it.
Sovereignty
A good support item. Gives good phy defence and some magic defence for your lane partner and the whole team in group fights. You'll be surprised at how it can save your lanepartner early game. Especially if your up against belly flopping Bacchus or frosty the Ymir
Bulwark of Hope
At this stage you'll mostly be rotating frequently now. And you'll need to stay in the fight long enough to help. Not only with the big health boost and Magic defence. The passive is great in tough spots.
midguardian mail
Good for body blocking those annoying range attacks from those adc as well as bruisers and assassins. Good health boost as well.
At this point you'll have to think what will come next after the next 2 items, if they got a fed magic god or fed melee god, or they're just to good, or they're just mostly phy than magic etc (Do not count the tank as one of the damage dealers. Unless they built more magic than tanky). Go for the ones that are needed most
Wall of Absolution
Good against any assassin/adc. Perfect for body blocking
Stone of Gaia Gives real strong magic defence and if you built mostly health you'll be surprised at how much you can regen each seconds
idol of concentration
Perfect to use if you want to charge in first. With bulwark combined you can easily survive the most ridiculous ganks if they're all pointed at you. Plus a little more CD reduction wont hurt.
Void Stone
A good teamfight item to get. Reduces magic protection of enemies nearby you so you even help by just being there as well as the added magic defence. Also some magic power for some fun.
Pestilence
If they got some lifesteal or magical lifesteal going on grab this. Don't let them heal BIG while in teamfights. If a carry or any melee god is built on lifesteal and crits. The deference the 15% it makes in ganks is quit big.
mystical mark Good health bonus as well as phy defence. Oh, and a little extra damage just by standing next to anyone.
Mark of the Vanguard
Good starter tank item. Decent protections as well as the health boost
Watcher's Gift
If you feel like you want to speed up your gold process. But you'll have to be careful since you sacrificed defence and health from Mark of the Vanguard
Hand of the Gods
Use this for fast wave clearing. Better than lvling 1 skill. Just be careful. Don't do that when the enemy is right there. You'll just be an easy target. Use it when you don't have the risk. A way to get all of them in the HoG's radius is go to the minions before they met yours then lead the melee ones next to the archers.
Eye of Providence
Essential to avoid any ganks from the jungle.
Dots showing some practical spots for wards
(If not showing go here)
Gauntlet of Thebes
With full stacks gives 850 health total. Nice to have but gives no defence bonus except some extra regen. Maybe good with Stone of Gaia
Hide of the Nemean Lion The highest phy defence an item can give. But the passive is not really that worth getting in my opinion
Mail of Renewal Not recommended in conquest unless you have a capable jungler/lane partner. Would just use this in assault.
Ethereal Staff The only magical item that gives the biggest health as well as adding 2% of your your maximum health to magical power. Good as a last item mixed with Gauntlet of Thebes if you want to be a bit of a butt hurt and still take punches like pinches.
Usually it's the CC and dashes/jumps and 1 lvl for the damaging skill. (But for Bacchus his Chug should be lvled up 3 times so you can easily get his passive to Tipsy so you'll have your Belch of the Gods's stun always ready)
And pay attention to some of gods' skill. Like Hades's Shroud of Darkness can add fear to the target if his passive Blight is on them, ether by a basic attack or Death From Below But don't hesitate to use it without Blight if you know silencing someone would save your teammates life. Think of it as knockback. Preventing any skills that could one shot your fleeing teammate.
Always make sure your teammates are ready to attack. CC first then let them get some hits in. That's the best way to poke. But don't poke to early since minions can easily kill you at the start.
"Anticipate the enemies movement. Let them come to the range of your stun."
2nd Guide. Hope you new players find this helpful. Tanks are one of the hardest roles there is and you need to know how to play one. Especially if your not used to Smite yet.

Final argument, if you compare the stats between different levels, you'll see you end up paying more mana for less percentages on your meter. It's just a waste and the extra protections aren't worth it.
On the guide itself, A general guide about tanks could do with a gameplay section explaining how tanks need to be played. You say a few things about it but it needs to be a little more expanded. More BB coding would be great as well.
Final note: Gauntlet of Thebes is one of the worst tank items in game. I have lots of info in my Bacchus guide why this is so if you want to know more check that out.
All in all, this guide could use some work in my opinion, though it's nice you've taken up the task to make a general strategy for playing supports.
Sorry, I mispoke, Bacchus should get 1 rank of Chug and get the four other ranks last. It's easy to keep up the meter with 1 rank of chug and it's mana cost rises exponentially the more ranks you put in it, which completely robs you of mana early game. Also, Bacchus doesn't need first blue, give it to the carry so he can clear the lane faster. You can easily keep your mana up with watcher's gift and mana pots.
lvl 3 is what I really get mostly. lvl 1 is to slow to get to tipsy. It's not a 1 second colddown skill like He Bo's. And you'll be surprised at how fast the tank drains.
Bacchus should always lvl his Chug last, if not he'll have serious mana problems
you should at least have it to lvl 2. You got no cc if you don't have it. Tip: Better of to start with watcher's gift since it gives mp boost for bac. This is why bac always gets blue.
Sincerely,
One tank to another <3
