When you get a lifesteal item, it does count as a defensive one, at least in the TAB score chart. And personally, the only defensive item I would ever get on a hunter would be like voidshield only if there are some fed physical gods. If there's magic? I usually just don't worry about it unless they're extremely carrying the game.

Do what works best for you and your team. Just know before you do something, know why. Builds are more situational, based on the single game you're playing rather than following the meta.

In your hypothetical situation, building defense will only prolong your death. In that situation, you should stick to your lane as much as possible; ask your support for as much help as he or she can give; and play as safe as you can afford. Building defense will only restrict your damage and decrease your worth to your team. However, it doesn't mean you can't play safer. Trying to keep Heartseeker when hideously behind is unreasonable. Building Devourer's Gauntlet with its permanent stacks is a safer option that will not ruin your final outcome.

Also instead of Heartseeker you could build Transcendence which gives more power and it has perma stacks. It doesn't have that movement speed though which is helpful for boxing.

I don't see how 1 item is not doing any damage at all. Take this typical hunter build:
Warrior's Tabi, Lifesteal item, deathbringer, rage, Quins' Sais, penetration item

Why not just take out Quins' Sais or the lifesteal item? I find I already do enough damage with Deathbringer + rage that I don't need anymore.

Basically you get more "defense" from having the lifesteal and attack speed from Qin's as an ADC. It all comes down to positioning, a good ADC knows where to be in a fight to avoid being hit by everything. If you do not know how to play ADC properly, that one protection item will not make much of a difference either. You might survive one more hit than you would have with a normal build, but your lifesteal per second will go drastically down.

So basically an ADC survives by staying out of range from the enemies, that is why you do not want protection on them. A support, bruiser etc needs to be in the fight to do anything and that is why they need protections :P

Even the six slots are not enough to take your power to its limits, so not using all of these slots is a bad idea, you need every slot available and every aura from your supports to take down a god instantly. Sometimes, just that one additional item from 5 to 6 is what makes you simply unstoppable. If you're a good hunter you dont need defense. Actually it doesnt even help you. Lets say you bought one item that boosts your protection, how much protection is it going to give you, 50, 70? If the attacker is a hunter or an assassin, he's gonna go through this armor in no time because he would be smart and get a 70% chance critical and a sky-high penetration. And if a guardian or warrior catches you then you're not as good a hunter as u should be. And if its a mage, then you should have bought magical protection and thats two item slots lost. Anyway, the best defense is a good offense. You jus cant cancel an attacking item, which one would you throw away? Attack speed? no, too valuable, Critical chance? even more, and the same goes on for critical damge, for penetration, attack power , ect.

Hunters and assassins greatly need full damage builds (assassins can be flexed with ancile, void shield, and shifter's shield though). If your getting killed fast without being able to do anything, you obviously just need to practice more. Learn to maneuver around to not get hit, use your abilities in way that make it easier to kill the enemy (i.e. artemis' trap in front of an escaping/chasing enemy), encourage your team to work together (calling mias, incomings, placing wards, etc) and you should be able to work a full damage build (the teamwork is so your not caught off guard by a random damage dealer who kills you). If you still can't use a full damage build, then play a different playstyle other than assassin or hunter.
(P.S. The mentality is it makes you kill faster, take objectives faster, etc making them much better than if they had a defense item. Also, you don't really need all of that to be good at full damage. You just have to practice more with it if your not doing well with it)

I got it, i realy got it, this is it, this is what i'm loking for, i just need more practice to be a good ADC i suck at Artemis i have her gold skin but the best part is i have 370+ kills and over 870+ assists on my stats for her, i do lack of basic atacking and positioning. But i carried a whole team 2 times with her though, but in general that's what new ADC players should hear about.

You explained the role of an ADC of waht they suposed to do and waht not, now i will be able to practice with ease.
