Moonflower Dance already deals 50% Healing reduction and we're only going to get Divine Ruin in the place of Obsidian Shard since we can keep the enemy with a constant 40% Healing redux.
Recently tested this out and had a helluva good time! Pridwen is definitely a nice change of pace and allows you to do some crazy plays!

Hi! I'm WolfWitch and this is my guide for Chang'e, the god that has been my main since mid 2018. Right now, I'd say Chang'e is the strongest mage solo laner, but it could be debateable with Zhong Kui existing. Futhermore, I'll give a brief explanation as to how you should react in lane and some useful information not everyone knows about her! So buckle in and come in this ride with me! xoxo
The main strength of this build is allowing you to be aggressive in the moment of the game Chang'e normally can't be aggressive: Early game.
By having 5 Healing Potions and 5 Multi Potions, you're effectively allowing yourself a whopping 2125 health, plus the healing from Moonflower Dance, the healing from Warrior's Blessing and another burst heal from Meditation Cloak. The idea is to never leave the lane and fully rely on the Totem of Ku, Meditation Cloak, Multi Potions and the Blue Buff for mana sustain, while the bunny does all the work!
By level two, you can send the bunny back to buy t1 boots, but you could wait 'till around level 4 or 5 to send the bunny back to buy the T2 item of the defense item you want, may it be Void Stone or Lotus Crown. You could get Celestial Legion Helm if you're facing an Achilles or an Sun Wukong, as they both can't lower all of your stacks without basic attacking you (and they weren't made for basic attacking, except maybe Achilles if you're really wild!).
You should use and abuse the sheer health that you're allowed to have with all the aforementioned items and abilities, and be really aggressive and really safe at the same time! If a gank from the enemy jungler comes around, make sure to use Waxing Moon just as they're both lined up (they will get somewhat behind each other most of the time, since you get a really nice escape with the double healing + dances) and keep dancing! If you can get back to your tower, they could try to dive you. The most effective way to survive a dive is to stay behind the tower, forcing them to go deep into the tower shots, and go around the small space that separates the tower from the wall, which not only makes the tower take the basic attack damage, as it also keeps them from effectively using movement abilities (unless, of course, they're using jumps).
Using Moonflower Dance into Crescent Moon Dance is more efficient and more effective than doing it backwards, since the animation from Moonflower Dance is faster than Crescent Moon Dance, increasing your DPS.
You can flick your screen to increase the distance Crescent Moon Dance goes, but know that it's not by much (but it's really good). Not only it works sideways but it also works if you move forward or backward!
You can charge in with both your 1 and your 3 and back off before the extra movement speed and backpedal immunity from the passive ends, which is really good for constant, annoying poke.
The most effective combo, using your ult, is Crescent Moon Dance into Moonflower Dance into Waxing Moon into Crescent Moon Dance. Most players will expect this progression of attacks, so I recommend you to do Moonflower Dance into Waxing Moon, skipping the first Crescent Moon Dance, allowing you to break the pattern and catch them unprepared.
If you go 40% cooldown, you can reliably use Spear of the Magus for the Crescent Moon Dance into Moonflower Dance into Crescent Moon Dance into Waxing Moon into Crescent Moon Dance combo, dealing major damage.
This was my quick guide to Chang'e! If you've liked it, please leave a like and a comment! Also, I'm open to talking about the build or any other suggestions or criticism you may have! If you're shy, feel free to DM me! Wolf out! xoxo

Close "build". *doubletriplefacepalm*
I've run an experiment with three friends of mine (and recorded their performance and such on a spreadsheet) in order to see how I could improve the guide, tips/gameplay wise, and I noticed something peculiar: While they would try to switch up all of their items, they would always stick to the recomended boot. From the 10 scenarios I ran with each of them (30 total), in only 2 scenarios anyone decided to pick Shoes of Focus over Shoes of the Magi (which has been the recomended boot since I launched this guide, I believe).
With the results to their performance being a key component, I had also to analyze their build to improve any match up specific tips I thought about giving previously (currently a bit lazy to write it in! haha). Whenever they picked Shoes of the Magi, they could perfectly reached their 30%/40% CDR. However, when they picked Shoes of Focus, they would either stay with 20% or would overcap at 50%, and they're "seasaoned" smite players (One of them plays since beta, other two since S3, all playing at least 15 matches a week).
Taking that into consideration, and thinking that someone who looks for a guide COULD be a new player that doesn't know these CDR cap mechanics, god building and etc, I decided to keep Shoes of the Magi so the "CDR experience" stays the same match from match, and doesn't have such a drastic change like I saw in this experiment.
As far as I am aware no pro/famous players have shown a build for Chang'e solo yet. The only thing I do know is that Weaken considers magi shoes in the lowest tier. And mid lane has a very standard build for most gods in the form of:
Chronos' Pendant-focus-divine- Charon's Coin-into 2 10% pen items (lot of cases phytags and Soul Reaver).
That said, in a way, dropping the CDR from Pythagorem's Piece (an item that I've always liked and built regularly) does help my build structure in a different sense...not that I'd advocate that on Chang'e, but again, still thinking general mage concept in this sense.
As for Obsidian Shard, any reason you're going with that in your standard build instead of what seems to be the much more popular Charon's Coin? I don't see the extra 10% pen in 1 ability once every 10 seconds being worth the extra utility Charon's provides.
Anyway, I appreciate your explanation, and in those cases where I do consistently run into issues about potentially overcapping CDR, I'm going to have to try this concept. It's outside the box thinking, at least in the way I haven't thought about it, and it's a reasonable solution.
Thank you for your feedback! I'm delighted to have someone as experienced and dedicated to the game as you are giving me some meaningful thoughts!
@Stuke, get the bolt cutters. We have a pinky finger we need to collect.
That's all, I'm happy to see you're back and good luck!
xoxo!!
Now, a bit about your guide! I think you could make a better Anti-Heal example build. Way too much penetration for a solo laner, that Obsidian Shard could definetly be a mixed defense item or maybe even Pridwen? I've tried it once before and it does give you some more utility while using Waxing Moon to get away from enemies!
I really love what you did here, abandoning the monotomous way we old-timers do guides and doing something more... tongue-and-cheek, I guess! I do hope you continue to post and keep expanding the guide, adding more knowledge, and maybe even filling out your threats tab! <3
I do see your reasoning for swapping out Obsidian Shard in that example, sugar, but Pridwen? I'd have to test it, but I don't think it fits!
Thank you thank you thank yooooou sugar pie! People normally don't enjoy these sort of listings I do, so I'm extremely happy to know you like 'em!
While the wording could use some cleaning up and grammatical fixes, it's easy to understand and quick to read. Once you get more use to the site, you can implement some more complex BB-Coding to help organize and format your text into a more appealing style.
With that out of the way, welcome aboard.
I will look into applying some of this fancy BBCoding thing into this mess at some point, while also adding more things that I'll remember as I go!
Thank you for the welcome! I'm so glad ya'll are fun and easy-going! I was truly terrified that I wouldn't be as welcomed! So thank you again! xo
I think you'll make a great addition to SmiteFire.
But hey nice Stranger Things reference
Nice first build/writeup! It's clear Chang'e is a god you're familiar with.
I have a few comments if you don't mind.
If you're playing aggressively, you're going to be doing a lot of poking with Crescent, and so I also think you might be better off with some Mana Potions at the start, or at least Multi Potions. I don't know that I'd commit to Chalice of Healing at the start, but if that's your preference, that's your preference...and I do get your concept of wanting to stay out as long as possible. Perhaps you might consider not investing in the Chalice (as you're not planning on backing often, right?), and instead starting with choice of blessing + 5 Healing Potions and 3-5 Multi Potions?
Mage's Blessing is an option a lot of my friends use on Chang'e, but I prefer Warrior's Blessing as it gives you damage reduction, protections, and another sustain tool! If you want to play a more traditional mage path, then I don't see the problem in either building Mage's Blessing or Guardian's Blessing (The latter not really being necessary but I do know a gal that uses it).
The Chalice of Healing allows you to double heal with Health Potion at maximum efficiency, and it gives you some silver lining if you really need to back or, in the worst-case scenario, you die. You really won't need the extra mana regen from Multi Potion after getting blue buff and using your autos to hit the enemy at a distance (an advantage people tend to overlook in building Warrior's Blessing on ranged characters).
Oh jeez, thanks for the catch! I forgot to write as to why I use Meditation Cloak! I normally dislike the relic, but you can use it aggressively on Chang'e! You can use it to bait the enemy into tower diving you, or making him think you're safe since you're out of mana! It's more of a wild card relic, but I've found that it has a lot of application on a character that doesn't need to back!
Sugarpie, I added Obsidian Shard as a Principal Item because I consider needing penetration key to any mage, even if solo! Imagine if an Aphrodite didn't grab Spear of the Magus, which sort of role could she play beside being a healing machine? Obsidian Shard, or any other pen item for that matter, allows you to truly be able to poke! I do agree Chang'e is better for her utility, but why not add poke as a utility? If people ignore you, you kill the backline (If you know how to proceed), if they focus you, you have ways to delay them long enough for your team to deal damage. That's just how I think, however!
While before you could apply the slow for possibly 4 seconds (if you waited out two seconds from the first application, lowering your dps, which would make you only apply it for 3 seconds so you could maximize it), you can apply it now for 2 seconds, which is a second shorter then most case situations, and I personally don't mind it! Don't really build it nowadays, but I don't see a problem listing it!
Dearie, I misclicked! It was supposed to be Jade Emperor's Crown! But now you got me curious to a possible abuse of this item for a level 5 kill, I will have to try it!
I'm a personal advocate of not building Shield of Regrowth and Rod of Asclepius on Chang'e. I think she gets a lot more from building any other item (may it be defense or damage darling!) than Shield of Regrowth. Rod of Asclepius is just a personal problem, I don't see a reason to build this over Lotus Crown on any healer except maybe Aphrodite!
Well sugarpie, with Hunters invading mid again, I thought it was a nice option to point that Divine Ruin is an option!. Of course I do suggest getting the protections, but you do need to remember, darling, that Moonflower Dance applies a natural 50% Healing Reduction upon hitting an enemy. Coupled with Divine Ruin, that's 90%, effectively shutting down the enemy healing. Chang'e is a perfect user of this item, since she can spam Crescent Moon Dance constantly (Keeping the 40% throughout most of the fight) and applying the 90% to counter the healing, if you don't focus on healing yourself or your team with Moonflower Dance. Also, it's always nice to point out this item, since your mid could forget it (Some pumpkins just skip it 'cuz they forget to include it in their custom setting!). Thank you for the kind words on the Celestial Legion Helm, I do think it's quite an overlooked item!
The Moonflower Dance into Crescent Moon Dance combo is for early fighting, when you don't have CDR and Crescent Moon Dance is on a 6 second cooldown, 5.4 if you have blue buff!
Thank you so much for reading my guide, cupcake! I do hope I can bring some joy to people who need help, and I hope your community welcomes me as well as you have! xoxo
Acknowledged on being able to basically double up on health regen by activating chalice and potions at the same time.
Acknowledged on Ob Shard, though still, as a full offensive item, it's really only worth against tanks. On squishy gods that don't build prots, you might be looking at the equivalent of around 10 flat pen, or even as low as 7. That makes it still pretty situational to me. I'm definitely not arguing your choice of Shoes of the Magi or Void Stone...I get those and agree with them. Just, and Chang'e isn't the standard Warrior Solo, but most tank solos don't usually get much in the way of pen...they might get Void Shield, maybe the occasional BBS or something, but you don't see most of them getting The Executioner or Titan's Bane, you know? That's where I'm basing my thought process. But I guess Chang'e can be looked to for potentially a bit more damage than them. I dunno. You're the Chang'e expert so I should probably defer to you.
Acknowledged on Asclep. I still think it can be functional, but it's limited to a degree because her healing isn't all that strong. Same for Regrowth, though I will say, as a lot of the pros do, MS is OP. Once she has 20% CDR she can proc it every use of Moonflower.
And yes, I don't forget about Moonflower providing the 50% anti-heal debuff. 90% with the added Divine is pretty crazy, but just like all the other offense-only items, I feel more prots might be the better option. 50% anti-heal is quite strong as-is, and adding 25% more from Pest/Contagion...well, 75% should be plenty in almost all cases, though of course you have to stick close with those to keep the effect up.
Thanks for the responses! I do think it's good to keep options open, so providing a large amount of item options allows for the flexibility needed to adapt to a given situation. Hope you continue to update and write more here!
I see your point on not getting a full power item, so I ask of ya, what would you get instead? This is a point in the game either the enemy laner is going to get his first power item, or his first defense item (Some wild Bellonas running around with Frostbound Hammers and Stone Cutting Swords in solo), so you either need a way to force him out of lane constantly due to health management, or you need to get so tanky his damage won't matter. Also, hooking up the Divine Ruin with this discussion, wouldn't Divine Ruin also give Chang'e another utility tool? Of course, she already has that sweet as a freshly baked cookie anti heal in her kit, so this would pretty much make her anti heal heaven!
Thank you for this lovely reply brownie! xo
Like I said, for Solo use, I like the idea of bruiser items if you want to add offense. I think your starts are fine...Void / Lotus options early seem like good choices. But let's think a bit further. Those two as items #2 and 3 are good if you're facing a physical solo + magical jungler, or magical solo + physical jungler (or also consider the damage type of the mid if they're rotating to your lane).
But if you're facing a physical solo + physical jungler, that Void Stone, while it serves nicely for added damage due to the protection reduction, might not be the best item in that spot. At which point, if they're building health (e.g. Frost, Pest, whatever), you might go from Lotus straight into something like Ethereal Staff. Or if they've got lifesteal/healing, you might actually go into Contagion, or even Divine Ruin if you're feeling good, as you're suggesting (and I know, that goes against my whole thing about bruiser items over full offense).
Ugh. I'm talking myself in circles. Builds are just gonna have to adapt to the situation. Overall, I think the general info here is good. As Kriega was mentioning, adding a tankier build example just to show people would be helpful.
Personally I don't like too much damage on Chang'e, but i guess i'm fine with Void Stone and lotus crown. Your guide seems simple and consistent to me, just how i like it!
xo
Personally, I do enjoy a little more damage early on, so you can be aggressive, hence why I opt into Void Stone and Lotus Crown. However, I do list a lot of other options for you to try out! Remember, at the end of the day, Smite's just another game. Mess around with builds, have fun, and keep on your smile! xo
If you go damage on her you should at least go like, Warlock's Staff or something so you don't get blown up instantly in fights.
Also, I'd love to hear your feedback on what do you think is a better build for her on solo! xo
Some "damage" options you could add: Bumba's Mask (as an offensive alternative to Shield of Regrowth), Rod of Asclepius, Pythagorem's Piece, Book of Thoth (which you can pair with Breastplate of Valor and Book of the Dead), Warlock's Staff, Staff of Myrddin.
Defense Options: I think I could see more. Shield of Regrowth, Relic Dagger (probably better for support, but can be useful in Solo situationally, like if you need Phantom Veil against Odin for example), Midgardian Mail, Spectral Armor, Winged Blade, Witchblade, Magi's Cloak, Emperor's Armor.
Yeah these builds are a little on the squishy side so that probably should happen. But bruiser-ish builds can be fine as well, since Chang'e isn't really great at tanking damage anyway outside of Moonlit Waltz.
Possible ideas:
E.g.1 "Tanky" build Against physical solo + anti-heal: Shoes of Focus, Lotus Crown, Divine Ruin, Genji's Guard, Ethereal Staff, Mantle of Discord (or Shield of Regrowth). Sell boots for Elixir of Speed and get Pythagorem's Piece.
E.g.2 "Tanky" build against magical solo + anti-heal: Shoes of the Magi, Void Stone, Divine Ruin, Lotus Crown, Ethereal Staff, Mantle of Discord (or Shield of Regrowth). Sell boots for Elixir of Speed and get Pythagorem's Piece.
Example Pridwen build against Physical solo: Shoes of the Magi, Lotus Crown, Void Stone, Pridwen, Ethereal Staff, Mantle of Discord. Sell boots for Elixir of Speed and get Rod of Tahuti. (Against magical solo just get Void Stone after boots).
The Warrrior's Blessing start you listed is fine (I would swap the health pots for multi pots though), but against low pressure solo lane matchups you could consider Mage's Blessing instead. In such a scenario, you could potentially rush Chronos' Pendant.
E.g. Shoes of the Magi, Chronos' Pendant, Lotus Crown/ Void Stone (either order), Ethereal Staff, Mantle of Discord or Obsidian Shard. Then sell Magi shoes late for Rod of Tahuti (or Mantle of Discord if you're getting bursted). This would be a more damage-focused build of course.
Warlock's Staff build: Shoes of Focus, Warlock's Staff, Void Stone, Breastplate of Valor, Ethereal Staff, Obsidian Shard. Sell boots for Elixir of Speed and get Pythagorem's Piece or Mantle of Discord or Rod of Tahuti. Since Pythags is a thing though I don't particularly recommend stacking Warlocks.
Breastplate of Valor bruiser build: Shoes of the Magi, Breastplate of Valor, Void Stone, Ethereal Staff, Divine Ruin (or Obsidian Shard), Obsidian Shard (or Lotus Crown). Sell boots for Elixir of Speed and get a siutational item or Pythagorem's Piece or Rod of Tahuti.
My, I do believe my glasses must've been dirty! I could've swore I added the items from the Winged Blade tree into this! I guess I didn't! Another thing to add later!
I haven't tried Staff of Myrddin on Chang'e yet, darling, so I can't recommend that yet! However, your other listings do seem reasonable (Except maybe Shield of Regrowth). I'll add those as well!
Now, for the builds: I do understand and agree with your idea around examples 1 and 2, sugar, but why Pythagorem's Piece? I do know and 100% agree that it's an amazing item, but there are better options, such as Chronos' Pendant! In your first build, that's 30% CDR (not including boots, of course!) and I guess that's the best outcome while using Pythagorem's Piece, but the second is kind of underwhelming to my eyes!
Like I've said above, I need to look into Pridwen, didn't really think about putting it in the build but your example is really nice! I'll try that and add to the guide if I enjoy it!
You could definitely use Mage's Blessing against a low-pressure god, I don't feel like it'll help players who really are struggling and need help with Chang'e! More experienced players, ones that already grasped her timings and her kit could surely use it, but not someone looking for my assistance, darling!
The Warlock's Staff is interesting, never thought about building it a mage solo that isn't Zhong Kui, will give it a try, thank you strawberry muffin! xoxo
