Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Sobek, God of the Nile

My name is Zilby. I am a casual player who primarily plays conquest. My preferred role in conquest is the solo lane, but I play all the roles regularly.

This is my ninth smitefire guide, and I intend to update it, so feel free to comment things that should be added/edited.

Regardless, lets move on to the cold blooded killer himself, Sobek!

Pros / Cons

Pros:
  • Great sustain with Sickening Strike for HP and Lurking In The Waters for mana
  • The best pull in the game.
  • Great engage and disengage with Charge Prey
  • Good CC for protecting your allies (especially your adc)
  • Good burst potential for a guardian
  • Can be tanky given the right items.
  • Passive is conducive to the support role
  • Charge Prey's engage allows you to buy actives other than Greater Blink
  • Great mobility
  • Stays relevant throughout the game
  • He's a crocodile
Cons:
  • Your engage is also your disengage, leaving you vulnerable
  • Not the tankiest guardian
  • Mana hungry, especially during the early game
  • Hard to take out enemies by yourself
  • Poking without fully engaging the enemy is difficult
  • Not the best at taking out jungle camps
  • Not a god that can carry

Items

This section is built around the core builds above as well as situational items. Do note the first build is built around the role of a support tank, and thus contains items that may benefit your team more than you individually while the second build is for you as a solo laner and focuses more on your overall presence in the game.

This item list will go in order of early game to late game items.

Warding

Some tactics and ward locations have been drawn from this guide, so I want to make sure to give it credit. The other guide is a more in-depth guide to warding in general. Most of the work I've done is to add some personal preferences and update it for the support role in season 2.

Conclusion

Sobek is a fantastic guardian and is capable of running the best duo or solo lanes in smite.
Whether you're near the Nile or on dry land, you'll never know when you're about to get pulled!
I hope this guide helps any new Sobek players out there, happy smiting!

Lol, I generally don't make guides for things that are quite so off-meta. I could make a blog post for it like my jungle bacchus though xD

Playing support with different classes can be pretty fun though. Yesterday I was Cupid support and did surprisingly well ^^

Great guide! I use basically the same items for support and it's a very good setup. Sobek is my favourite god right now because he's very mobile for a support, has very good CC, good defence and good kill potential. Charge prey is one of the most useful skills in the game, especially with 40% CDR. I frequently get 10+ kills, 3- deaths and 20+ assists. IMHO, he's much more fun and action packed to play than Ymir for example (which I used to play a lot before).

I loved this guide. Your level detail on the items you pick, the situations you pick them, and what point in the game you pick them at is fantastic. Not only is this a great guide to Sobek in support and solo lanes, but a lot of the item choices you make are very applicable to other guardians in general.

Very well done.

Well Sobek's dash isn't CC immune :). Up to you I guess. I like it on all guardians.

In support I do put Winged Blade on most guardians because its stats are great around 4th item (assuming I'm going travelers shoes, Sovereignty, Heartward Amulet, Winged Blade, etc). The only reason I don't use it on Sobek is because of my strong preference for Breastplate of Valor since he's so mana dependent and because he's already pretty mobile.

Add in that starter item Mark of the Vanguard. Yes, it's good in solo as well :). I would add in a Winged Blade just somewhere. Lastly, if you were against a magical matchup, you might want to communicate with your support to purchase Heartward Amulet. Your build will leave Sobek mana hungry since you can't rely on blue buff the whole game. Pretty good!

I agree with all these points except for Winged Blade. Since Sobek has a long CC immune ult and a dash, slows really aren't his greatest weakness. Additionally, since the rest of his build has high amounts of health, I'd much rather max out his CDR building Spirit Robe for extra defenses than Winged Blade, especially since Winged Blade is really more of an early-mid game buy which is when you should be grabbing mana items.

Everything else though I agree with. While I do still generally prefer Vampiric Shroud to Mark of the Vanguard since it has more mana sustain, I can see the use in Mark of the Vanguard's damage resistance since Sobek's early clear isn't very safe. I'll make sure to add all this in though :]

Sobek sections for the solo lane have now been completed! Tell me what you guys think, I'd be interested in anything you disagree about or have to add (or any small corrections to be made as well :] ).

It works best when paired with an awilix jungler in my experience.

I could but it would be entirely theoretical since I never play Sobek as a solo laner. Personally I've just never had much success with tanky magical solo laners (aka Hades) so I've never given him a shot. I'll try a couple matches with him and if they go well I'll make a section since Sobek in the solo lane is growing in popularity.
